OK, HA newbie here. I am a Hubitat convert running Home Assistant OS on a Dell Latitude. I use a light group in my house (living room and laundry room status color LED lights) to indicate to other family members if there is a cat out in the garage so that we don’t forget to bring them in or to NOT open an external garage door and accidentally let them outside.
I have a button in the laundry room (access from the house to the garage) that when single pressed turns the light group Blue to indicate that a cat or cats are in the garage. If that button is double pressed it will turn Green indicating that no cats are in the garage. I have contact sensors on the roll up door and the side door.
I would like an automation that would capture the status of the light group when either of the contact switches are “opened” and return the light group to the previous state (should always be Green if the exterior doors are opened) when both exterior doors are closed.
I did see soem YT videos about “Scene” snapshots but their trigger was a single contact and looked for “open” and “closed” as the triggers and had “IF” and “THEN” conditions to capture the “before” state of some entities when the contact opened, changed the states of the entities and when the contact closed restored the entities to the previous settings. They used an Entity ID for the “window opened” trigger but not one for when the window closed. I got lost around this part of the video and how it would work with my use case as I have two “open” triggers and no “closed” trigger like in the video.
Could one automation to do what I want or would it take two (one for either contact opening and one for when both contacts are closed)? Sorry for the long explanation of what I want but I hope I gave enough context of the situation, sensors in play, and desired results.
