Enterprise UI separate from Lovelace

I’m mulling over the idea of starting a business installing automation systems. As a result of my research, it appears that Home Assistant is the best tool out there. The primary selling point of home assistant to clientele is interoperability and the complex interactions that come with this territory not available on siloed commercial platforms.

With this complexity and abundance of data comes new challenges in scaling a UX. Those who have built out Lovelace UI have done a fantastic job, it is far better than any home automation platform I have come across. While Lovelace is awesome - especially for open-source software, I think it has just scratched the surface of what is possible in Home Automation UX.

I have experience installing Control4 in opulent homes. If you haven’t seen Control4’s UI it’s extremely underwhelming for the price point. It’s always at least 5 years behind the design curve. MFW I see a gorgeous stone wall with a crappy tablet attached sporting a UI that looks like something from iOS 1 . Case in point, the design of a home automation system is a part of the design of a home.

As an open-source voluntary contribution project, HA is limited in the resources it can put into focusing on cutting or bleeding edge UI/UX. This is why I think this enterprise UI endeavor should be brought into separate and decoupled project. I’m considering starting a monetized UI component/theme ecosystem separate from Lovelace. As a dependence on HA Core there would be financial stake in this code. Could mean more money going into the HA project.

Before going into to tech or architecture I would like to get some feedback from the community about this blasphemous idea. What are your thoughts?

Sidenote: Check out Grommet. It’s a gorgeous component theme for React. It inspires me.
