Use sensor templates in name: and friendly_name:

I would like to replace Today and Month with Thursday and May. I have the template sensors sensor.dayoftheweek and sensor.month set but I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out how to use these in name: or friendly_name: fields.

I’ve tried numerous custom cards but I think I am missing something with the syntax. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
