Start lawn sprinkler if yesterday and today is no rain

Hi,

I am planning to start my lawn sprinkler between 5am and 6am if yesterday was no rain and today is also no rain predicted. My idea was to use the sensor dark_sky_precip_intensity. But I don’t know how to get the amount of rain from yesterday or today. In DarkSky with “mode: Daily” I still get only see the hourly forecast.
Anybody who can support me with this?

Sonoff Basic tasmota switchlight PMW controll

@Robert_it wrote:

Might be a simple question but several searches and no luck?

I have a Sonoff basic with the latest Tasmota.
I use the main relay to control a coffee machine. I have attached a led illuminated external switch on GPIO 14 in switchmode 9 (toggle) and are illuminating the switch with PMW power from GPIO 3 in PMW1 mode (37)
The main relay is called Power1 and the light in the switch is called Power2.
How can I control the brightness in the button to be at 30 % during the dark hours, 60 % during the bright hours and 100% when the Power1 relay is in “ON” mode?
I can adjust the brightness of the LED in the button by a slider in the Tasmota web-interface but I would like it to be controlled by action in MQTT.

Some info of the setup:

    payload_off: “OFF”
    payload_available: “Online”
    payload_not_available: “Offline”

How do I go about telling the system that the Power2 is a light with brightness adjustability?

I have tried a few “lights” configurations, but no luck so far? :frowning:

Conbee II Phoscon App can't find lamp

Hi,

I’m new to home assistant and home automation in general. What I have:

Raspberry Pi with Conbee II, running home assistant and deconz
Philips Hue Cher ceiling light
Philips Hue Dimmer Switch
Philips Hue Smart Button

I was able to pair the Dimmer Switch in the phoscon app with the Conbee, I was not able to pair the Smart Button, nor detect the ceiling light(pressing search for new lights did nothing).

I have read this: Guide to deCONZ high level debugging
I got all of that working( installed deCONZ from the apt repositories, HA running in Docker on my Pi, reconfigured deCONZ to run on port 8080 to not interfere with my apache2). I can login into Phoscon and installed the integration “deCONZ Zigbee gateway” and can see some devices:

I don’t know which of these is the paired Dimm Switch, this is all pretty confusing still right now.
How can I pair the Cher ceiling light with the Conbee so the Dimmer Switch is able to control the ceiling light?

Thanks for any help!

Best way to clone entire HA system to new SSD

I currently have my HA running on a HP ultra small form factor PC running in docker on Ubuntu Server. I am currently using a 250GB SSD which I would like to use for a different project. I have a 128 GB Samsung SSD which will be perfect so I tried to clone the entire drive using Clonezilla.

First I used Gparted live to reduce the partition size of the bigger drive to around 115GB then I booted from the Clonezilla live USB drive and performed the clone. Everything appeared to work OK but the new drive would not boot. I also tried Macrium Reflect from a rescue USB and again everything looked OK but I still couldn’t boot off the new drive.

Anyone have any other solutions for performing this task? I know I can do a clean install of Ubuntu Server then install HA & Docker and import a backup but I figured cloning would be the best option.

Denon AVR and Alexa

I have added Alexa to my integrations, and have an integration for my Denon AVR , and for good measure an integration for Denon HEOS as well (I do not own HEOS speakers, just use the app) . Other than enabling HA in the Alexa App, I haven’t done anything with Alexa. Alexa is turning on/of my lights that I integrated with HA.

When I say “turn on Denon” it does, and that’s about it. When I say “turn off Denon” it does not. Once the denon is on, if I say “play Denon” it might, or, it will say “shuffling songs by Dan and Leland on Amazon Music” and it plays it on the Echo, not the Denon

In the Alexa App under devices I only see “denon AVR-X1500H” which is the integration name for HEOS, the integration for my receiver just says “denon”

In Home Assistant the Source for Denon is Heos Music.

I want to be able to tell Alexa to play my music in the living room only - where the denon is. Basically I am huge soy cuck and WAF is a big deal here. Being able to say “Play spotify in the living room” would be outstanding.

What are these 6 dimmers doing (instead of 4?)?

How to retrieve template variables and forward them into a shell_command

$

@unreal4u wrote:

Hi all!

I’m trying to forward a saved temperature state to a webhook so that I can do some further processing with it on another process.

I actually import the value from a MQTT topic which works ok:

# configuration.yml
sensor:
  - platform: mqtt
    name: "Workshop Temp."
    state_topic: "telemetry/temperature/workshop"
    unit_of_measurement: "C"

I can see the temperature in graphs within Home Assistant. What I want to do now is forward that piece of information to my webhook, but only when that value actually changes. I’ve come as far as doing the following:

# configuration.yml:
shell_command:
  webhook_workshop_temp: "/usr/bin/curl -X POST -d 'temp={{ temperature }}' {{ url }}"

# (...)
automation: !include automations.yaml

# automations.yml:
- id: send_interior_temp_to_webhook
  alias: Send interior temp. to webhook
  trigger:
    platform: state
    entity_id: sensor.workshop_temp
  action:
  - service: shell_command.webhook_workshop_temp
    data:
      url: 'https://XXX.YYY.ZZZ/'
      temperature: '{% states.sensor.workshop_temp.state %}'

Which triggers successfully, however in my POST data on the server, this is what I receive:

# PHP script which will do some stuff:
if ($_SERVER['REQUEST_METHOD'] === 'POST') {
    $postData = file_get_contents('php://input');
    file_put_contents(__DIR__ . '/post.txt', print_r($postData, true));
    (...)

$ cat post.txt
temp={% states.sensor.workshop_temp.state %}

I’ve tried calling {{ sensor.workshop_temp }} and some other values but no matter what, I can’t seem to retrieve/forward the actual value. Ideally, if the temperature is 20.4°C I would like it to send “20.4”.

FWIW: I’m running Home Assistant v0.107.1 via Docker on a raspberry pi 4. I did read this guide: https://www.home-assistant.io/docs/automation/trigger/ and some other answer on the internet but couldn’t find my answer there, I’m a bit confused however with the differences between data, data_template, payload and payload_template though…

Thanks and greetings.

Link to the Heiman siren

I have added the Heiman siren to Home Assistant with ZHA.
It is not seen as the right one. is seen as binary_sensor. (binary_sensor.heiman_warningdevice_ias_zone)

I expected to have:

  • 1 switch to turn the siren on/off
  • 1 switch to turn the flashlight
  • 1 battery level sensor

My question is how to get this right in Home Assistant with ZHA. How to get it working.

Understanding event_data content

@ThomDietrich wrote:

Hey all,
slowly getting to know Home Assistant and I hope the community can help me to understand this question.

In the context of an event triggered automation, what is inside event_data?

Some explanation to the question is given here - however the truth seems to lie somewhere in between.

Example

I observe events via the developer tools and the “*” filter. The event for a door sensor I want to trigger on looks as such:

Event trace...

    "data": {
        "entity_id": "binary_sensor.door_bathroom",

            }
        }
    },

        "parent_id": null,
        "user_id": null
    }
}

But this view doesn’t seem very useful, as its data clearly is not used for automations.

The following automation triggers:

- alias: bathroom_light_via_doorsensor
  trigger:
    - platform: event
      event_type: state_changed
      event_data:
        entity_id: binary_sensor.door_bathroom
  action:
    service: light.turn_on
    entity_id: light.bathroom

this one doesn’t trigger:

- alias: bathroom_light_via_doorsensor
  trigger:
    - platform: event
      event_type: state_changed
      event_data:
        entity_id: binary_sensor.door_bathroom
        new_state:        # Added
          state: 'on'     # Added
        # Also doesn't work
        # new_state: 'on'
  action:
    service: light.turn_on
    entity_id: light.bathroom

Of course I could work with a state trigger or tailor this with a condition but I am trying to learn.

Questions

The example raises a few questions:

  • Why does the second automation not work?
  • Is there any interface on which one can directly and unambiguously see all events and state changes with all linked data (which can then be used in triggers, conditions and actions)? This seems to be an important piece of the HA ecosystem I did not yet find.

Based on this discussion I’ll contribute an improvement to the documentation.

Thanks for your help!

Install SSL from Domain Provider

@alexmanny wrote:

Hi,

I have a domain name that I want to use with my Home Assistant. Here is what I did so far:

[Note] My Home Assistant is installed on an Ubuntu machine.

  1. I port forwarded public ports 80-433 to private ports 8123-8123.
  2. Created a A+ Dynamic DNS Record of my domain that points to my ISP public IP address.
  3. Now when I type my sub-domain name in the browser http://subdomain.mydomain.com it successfully fetches my HA login page and I can login and use it from outside my network without any problem.

The problem is that the browser is reporting that the connection is not secure. So I bought an SSL Certificate from my domain provider and I want to use that between my domain + Home Assitant.

All the guides I found, focuses on DuckDNS and Let’Encrypt, but I dont want to use third party websites, I want to use the SSL I bought from my domain provider along with my own domain name.

I thought I can install the SSL certificate on the Ubuntu machine itself and somehow assign within the certificate the port 8123 so that this is where the SSL would be activated at, but not sure how to do that and also not sure if Home Assistant uses Apache or not.

Not very experienced with Linux and any help is greatly appreciated.

I just want to be able to use my own domain with my HA with my own SSL. So far I got the first half working, my domain name resolved to my HA correctly so my port forwarding is correct, just need to know how to apply the SSL bought from my domain registrar which is (namecheap.com) to my HA instance.

Thanks.
