Most reliable way to power a "busy" indicator light from Google Calendar

$

0

I have setup a Govee light above my office door that I plan to use as a “busy” indicator for my family to know that I am not to be disturbed. I have been playing around with the Google Calendar integration to use meeting start and end events to be the primary trigger for this light turning on and off.

However, I have noticed that the current Google Calendar integration seems to only refresh on 15 minute intervals, and sometimes has issues with back to back meetings (which I often have a lot of).

I’m curious if anyone has had success doing something similar with Google Calendar, and if there are any other options beyond triggering a HA automation from the built in trigger the integration has.

I’m open to using Node-Red to power this, and I’ve also considered whether a webhook powered solution would give me more control.

All that said, if someone has had reliable success with HA automations and the core Google Calendar integration, I’m all ears.

Wyze Bulb WLPA19 - Tasmota Integration

$

I went through the process of opening up a few Wyze WLPA19 (white) bulbs, carving out the potting compound, wiring up and flashing them with Tasmota (12.0.2). Very easy process. Home Assistant is running on Bodhi Linux, along with Mosquitto MQTT broker in Docker on the same box. Setting Option19 on and off. The device is detected by the Tasmota Integration or MQTT based on config. Focusing on Tasmota discovery… I can see the state change in Home Assistant when changed manually via the bulb’s HTTP interface, but cannot change the state from Home Assistant. When attempting state change, the bulb reverts back to its prior state in HA, and the bulb physically does nothing. Has anyone confirmed that the documented template is correct?

Template: {“NAME”:“Test Bulb”,“GPIO”:[5728,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,416,417,0,0,0],“FLAG”:0,“BASE”:48}

Console displays changed state when manually performed, but nothing when attempting via HA.

I feel I am 90% of the way there, and this is some simple overlooked option or config setting.

Thanks for taking the time to read through this!

Problems with devices and ZHA

$

Hi,
I’m having big problems with any device and ZHA integration.
Until last week I was using a CC2531 usb key as coordinator, the coverage performances were poor but all the aqara devices in my possession were recognized.
Having problems with coverage, I decided to buy a new CC2652p USB stick.
As soon as I received the key, to clean up and restart from a clean situation, I removed all the aqara devices I had registered before from the configuration and removed the ZHA component.
After I inserted the new CC2652p key into the raspberry, rebooted it and reinstalled the ZHA integration, the key was recognized as (ZNP = Texas Instruments Z-Stack ZNP protocol: CC253x, CC26x2, CC13x2 by ZHA) together with a second coordinator (unk_model by unk_manufacturer) and from that moment no aqara peripherals or other zigbee peripherals are recognized.
As a test I tried to remove everything (coordinator and integration) and reinstall the old CC2531 key that was previously recognized correctly and worked even if with little coverage, but now this too has the same problem, it is recognized as (ZNP = Texas Instruments Z- Stack ZNP protocol: CC253x, CC26x2, CC13x2 by ZHA) but another coordinator is also recognized (unk_model by unk_manufacturer) and no other device is discovered.
What could have happened? What can I do?
Thanks in advance for the help

Gas KWh not included in total energy use

In the graphic representing my homes energy usage, it shows the energy used from Gas in KWh, but doesn’t include this in the total energy used by my home. Gas usage is being recorded and showing in the charts and cost calculation.

Is this a bug in the Energy dashboard, or deliberate - in which case what is the thinking?

Pause TV automations

Hi All,

I’m trying to create an automation that when I’m watching a movie, if motion is detected somewhere, the movie pauses.

I’ve created a toggle called movie. Linked this to a button that shows the state so I know when it’s On.

My trigger is a motion detector.

My condition is a state.

I can force the automation and the TV pauses. However when I test the condition I get the red icon to say the state isn’t “on”.

When I physically test the automation it doesn’t run.

What am I missing?

Automation - after sunset (tonight) but before sunrise (the next morning) Does Not Work

$

I am pretty sure that this used to work a couple of years ago. Now, it doesn’t. What I want:

Automation description: If Office motion detector says I’m in the office, and it’s between sunset tonight and sun rise next morning, then turn on the desk lamp (basically, do this when it’s dark based on sun).
Automation triggers: every minute
Condition: Sensor must show I’m detected in the office; Must be dark based on sun - therefore, time must fall between sunset the current night, and sun rise the next morning.

What happens: condition fails even though I am inside the window - the sun has set, and it has not yet risen, therefore it’s still dark based on the sun’s state.

What I tried:

  1. Set to after sunset - works until midnight I think, then, automation no longer triggers.
  2. Set to before sunrise - Doesn’t work until past midnight, I think. Meaning there is a window between sun setting in the current evening, and HA resetting the “sun” which seems to be midnight!?

I do not want to deal with fixed timings because England could get dark at 10PM during summer, or 3PM during Winter. So if I set to 7, my office will be too dark until 7 in Winter, or it will waste electricity during Summer by turning on the lamp when it’s not needed.

The above way - after sunset / before sunrise used to work before, as I had an automation to control hallway lights that way and it worked. Then after some release I can’t remember, it stopped working.

Posting here first for advice, if this is a bug let me know and I’ll raise a report.

Raspberry Pi as a Bluetooth IR Relay

$

I was wondering if anyone has used a Raspberry Pi as a Bluetooth IR relay? I found this guy’s documentation and Home Assistant network topology diagram and he used a Pi as an RF Bluetooth relay.

I have a couple of really bad IR remotes that I’m trying to set up with the Broadlink Hub, but I feel the frequency is too low to get them to work with the Broadlink Hub. For instance I have these art lights on my wall that use IR remotes. You can use one IR remote with all of them as they are all the same light just three of each. Unless you point the remote in the right spot the dang things don’t work. I’m not even that far away from them when I try to turn the lights on and off.

The only function I can get working with the Broadlink HA Integration is turning the lights off.

Is there a way I can extend the IR remotes frequency so that the lights respond better in HA or with their own remotes?

Having different cards as homekit style cards

So I wanted to use the custom mini media player as a tile but I cant get it to work. This is the code I used:

rows:
  - row: 1
    columns:
      - column: 1
        tileOnRow: 1
        entities:
          - title: M E D I A
            entities:
              - card: custom:mini-media-player
                entity: media_player.spotify_marko
                artwork: full-cover

And I wanted to set the custom mushroom alarm panel card as a tile but it doesnt work either. This is the code:

rows:
  - row: 1
    columns:
      - column: 1
        tileOnRow: 1
        entities:
          - title: S E C U R I T Y
            entities:
              - card: custom:mushroom-alarm-control-panel-card
                entity: alarm_control_panel.alarm
                states:
                  - armed_home
                  - armed_away

What am I doing wrong? I got the custom mini graph to work. Is it because these cards arent supported?

Precipitation local weather service as a condition

Hello,

I am a Homey convert and had an automation to turn on the BEregner depending on the weather forecast.

With this I had built in as a condition a json query for the precipitation forecast of the day, and only if the precipitation is equal to 0 he has switched on, with Hasso I do not manage this nachzubaune,m can someone help?

The query was the following, how can I incorporate that as a condition?

http://daten.buergernetz.bz.it/services/weather/district/6/bulletin?format=json&lang=de

And this was the parameter to extract for the precipitation of the day: $.forecasts[0].rainTo

Thanks in advance.

Google home connection

I am not sure if I am thinking the problem through correctly, or if it is possible.
What I am looking for is when you trigger Google Home “Hey Google, dinner is ready”. That would then trigger Home Assistant to flash the lights and announce that dinner is ready. I have seen that you can add custom themes, scripts, etc to Google Home from HA.

Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Help with Tuya/Loratap 6-button scene controller

$

I just recently picked up this Loratap 6-button scene controller from Aliexpress. I hoped it would work with Home Assistant but so far no luck. My Conbee II zigbee doesnt see it at all. My ZHA sees it and pairs with it but no entities are found, I’m assuming it just needs a new quirk but I don’t know how to configure that. Anyone else have one of these and have any luck? Looks like the Loratap 3 and 4 button versions are confirmed working.

Homekit bridge showing my gate as garage door. Any way to fix this?

$

Hey guys, I got my homekit set up today, but my gate is shown as garage door at the moment.
I’ve tried reset_accessory service, removing and adding back my cover.gate, and checking my cover.gate configuration. They look fine.
Here is my gate’s yaml code:

cover:
  - platform: template
    gate:
        device_class: gate
        friendly_name: "Gate"
        value_template: "{{ is_state('binary_sensor.gate_contact', 'on') }}"
        open_cover:
          service: script.open_gate_when_closed
        close_cover:
          service: script.close_gate_when_open
        icon_template: "{% if not is_state('binary_sensor.gate_contact', 'off') %}mdi:gate-open{% else %}mdi:gate{% endif %}"

I’ve also tried to enable customize.yaml to force the “device_glass” to be “gate”, but it didn’t help either. Homekit is still showing it as a garage door.

Anyone had similar issue before? TIA!

Energy Dashboard integration with Neurio/Generac PWRcell system

$

I’ve had the Neurio home power monitor installed in my power cabinet since 2015, and have seen its integration with HA come and go. Every six months or so I try to get it working properly, and it’s about that time again

Despite a change mentioned in the 2022.2 release (“Use new enums in neurio_energy (@epenet 6 - #61953) (neurio_energy docs 3)”), it has been years since the official integration has worked despite me confirming the appropriate api keys etc a number of times, being able to see the sensor results on the PWRview website etc. (I am not alone in this, and I’m not sure if anyone is currently using a working version of this plugin).

Instead of retrieving the information from the PWRview website, I instead have been retrieving it directly from the local sensor, following Bobby’s very helpful examples in this thread and am currently using this configuration in my configuration.yaml:

- platform: rest
  resource: http://192.168.0.169/current-sample
  name: neurio_raw
  scan_interval: 5
  value_template: '{{ value_json.state }}'
  json_attributes:
    - channels
- platform: template
  scan_interval: 5
  sensors:
    realtime_consumption:
      friendly_name: "Consumption"
      device_class: power
      unit_of_measurement: W
      value_template: "{{ (states.sensor.neurio_raw.attributes.channels.1.p_W) }}"
    consumption_imported:
      unit_of_measurement: W
      value_template: "{{ states.sensor.neurio_raw.attributes.channels.1.eImp_Ws }}"
    current_mains_voltage:
      friendly_name: "House Voltage"
      unit_of_measurement: V
      value_template: "{{ states.sensor.neurio_raw.attributes.channels.1.v_V }}"
    calculated_consumption:
      friendly_name: 'Daily Consumption'
      unit_of_measurement: 'kWh'
      value_template: "{{ ((states('sensor.consumption_imported') | float - states('input_number.consumption_at_midnight') | float) / 3600000) | round(2) }}"
    calculated_net:
      friendly_name: 'Net Consumption'
      unit_of_measurement: 'kWh'
      value_template: "{{ (states('sensor.calculated_consumption') | float - states('sensor.calculated_generation') | float) | round(2) }}"

While I can then create a custom dashboard card using my neurio_raw output which shows my current realtime power consumption as well as daily consumption, current voltage etc, I find it annoying that I am unable to use the neurio power monitor as an input for the Energy Dashboard which would seem to have been created for just this purpose despite having both the Neurio api information filled in correctly and working direct Home Assistant access to the required sensors.

Is there some way to configure the neurio_raw power sensors within HA so that they can be accepted as a valid Energy Dashboard input?

Z-wave 500 or 700, to be or not to be, that is the question

$

I was having enough little gotchas with my z-stick gen 5 that I decided to update to a z-stick gen 7. It took me two days, but it’s done now, and “working”. In retrospect, seeing all the threads about problems, I’m not sure why I did this, as I immediately started having problems with nodes dropping off and needing to be pinged. It looks for all the world like the 700 series is just a lemon of a design, and no amount of smart people can fix it.

I’m debating going back to the 5, but I don’t really know what the pros and cons are between the two. I have never been able to get a reliable z-wave network built with security enabled, so “more security” is nice, but not a win if that’s a major pro of the 700, because I’d prefer operable to secure.

Can anybody succinctly say whether the 700 is worth it? Is there some feature that will make it a clear win sometime in the mythical future when the bugs have been fixed?

TrueNAS (HA core jail) + Bluetooth donngle - what are the steps to connect my Bluetooth devices?

$

I have an old (but super strong) desktop computer with Truenas installed on it. HA core is installed in a jail and works great for my smart devices. I wish to sync some of my “less smart” (I won’t say “dumb”) devices that use Bluetooth with a Bluetooth dongle I found in my drawer.
Honestly I’m not sure where to start.
Up until now I just installed the integration and some magic happened which listed my devices.
Is this the same with Bluetooth?
Yes? What integration should I be instalingl?
No? What is the process for doing this?
Cheers
