Directions for newcomer on XBEE S1 needed

@mila wrote:

Hi, I started my journey with HA few days ago, trying to migrate my previous custom solution into it and got stuck with my XBee network.
I have XBee USB modem plugged into Raspbery PI4B (where HA is running), few relay controller boards on XBee network (of that type), now reading Zigbee integration documentation, forum posts related to it, but can not figure out how to map HA switch to a specific relay on one of the banks on the board.
In my previous project I was simply addressing it with board network address, bank and relay identifiers with AT command.

Any help or guidelines will be very appreciated.

Cannot reinstall hacs

@curious wrote:

I am running Home Assistant core in Docker
Today I wanted to add "vertical-stack-in-card " to hacs

Something went wrong apparently because HACS disappeared from the sidebar.
So I removed and reinstalled it following the instructions.
However it does not show in the sidebar.
Besides that in the folder .storage there are no hacs files

I am running Home Assistant 0.109.2

Anyone has a solution for this ?

Simple-thermostat (lovelace card) isn't installing correctly?

I used HACS to install simple-thermostat and I see “simple-thermostat” in www/community…it also shows up in lovelace resources…so it looks like it is installed correctly…but apparently not.

I am unable to find/use the simple-thermostat card to add my thermostat to my lovelace overview. I also added my thermostat using the standard thermostat which worked and then editing it to point to simple-thermostat instead of thermostat, but got an error…simple-thermostat not found.

Why doesn’t it install correctly (latest HACS/latest HAAS)…what am I doing wrong?

Alternative options to DuckDNS

Duckdns has had some outages in the past several months and I would like to find a way to make my HA accessible remotely without using Nabu Casa.

I have seen Cloudflare mentioned in the past but at the Cloudflare site I didn’t see where I could pick my URL. It looks like I have to purchase a domain first from another site such as domain.com then put that URL into the Cloudflare account. Is that the process that I need to take?

If that is what I need to do then are these my next steps?

  • Stop and Remove the DuckDNS from the Add On store
  • Install Let’s Encrypt from the Add On store and configure with Cloudflare info
  • Configure NGINX Home Assistant SSL proxy from the Add On store with the domain URL and Cloudflare set to yes
  • Change my base URL in secrets.yaml

Howto control HA from different (RPi, Android tablet/phone) touchscreens?

@Nick4 wrote:

Hi guys

I have an additional RPi (runs Raspbian with GUI) with 7" touchscreen that I use with a browser in kiosk mode to control my squeezeplayers and it also displays the HA webUI in another tab.
So it’s kind of a dashboard with just essential stuff to view & control.
The header of the HA webUI waists valuable pixels so it’s not the ideal solution.

I wonder if anybody else is using a RPi with touchscreen for HA and if yes, are there better ways/alternatives to lovelace/…?
I also have an Android 4.x tablet; any suggestions for that other then buying a new one.

Thanks a lot!

Migrating to OpenZWave Beta

@azound wrote:

I’m trying out the new OpenZWave (Beta) in 0.110.0, and it’s unclear what I should be doing with my old zwave configuration.

I’m using the hassio and was able to set up the MQTT addon, configured Home Assistant mqtt to use it, installed the Open Z-Wave Daemon and configured it with my existing zwave network key, and added the Open Z-Wave integration. Lastly, I removed the zwave key from my home assistant configuration and restarted it.

Everything appears to be “working” - I see all the z-wave based chatter if I listen to the # topic on mqtt, but my old zwave integration is still appearing, and all my devices are still owned by that integration (see the screenshot).

Additionally, I still see the zwave section in the configuration menu (new user - forum won’t let me upload additional images)

And it shows the network as started every time I reset (new user - forum won’t let me upload additional images)

How do I finish winding down my old integration, and how do I migrate my devices to the new integration? Do I need to change the network key in OpenZWave to be different than the one from the old ZWave integration or is re-using the network key valid?

There’s also some configuration files in my config directory - do I need to clear them out?

  • zwcfg_.xml
  • pyozw.sqlite

Thank you!

Disabling Unify configuration while Homeassistant is down

@advanbokhoven wrote:

Hi all,
I am looking for a way to disable the Unify integration while homeassistant is down.

Details
So a disk in my server died. Luckily I am running everything in docker with the state on a Nas. After setup of a new dockerhost I run all my containers fine again, except Unify and Homeassistant. Unify really died or messed up the database so I will fix that. Homeassistant (core) is expecting a Unify to be available and I cannot enter the webui to disable this. Logging shows:
I went to my Yaml Config file to disable Unify, to my suprise it was already hashed out(it’s been a while).
I also tried disabling the whole device tracker part with the same result.

2020-05-24 19:05:57 ERROR (MainThread) [homeassistant.components.unifi] Error connecting to the UniFi controller at 192.168.2.9
2020-05-24 19:05:57 WARNING (MainThread) [homeassistant.config_entries] Config entry for unifi not ready yet. Retrying in 80 seconds.

Anyone got some ideas to figure this one out?

I’m running into an issue with the new UI updates. The pixels have shifted ever slightly that it’s causing panels to shift upon edit/save. Here’s a picture of the UI when I first go to the page:

Before the UI changes (in 0.110), the second screenshot is how it remained the entire time. It appears there were some very subtle UI changes that’s causing this.

When I attempt to upgrade HACS to 1.0.2 the update pending never completes. I have done the download of the latest upgrade and replaced my current hacs in the custom_components directory and also got a new personal access tocken from github. The upgrade does not complete and still shows a upgrade to 1.0.2 required. All of my previous upgrades have required downloading the latest version of hacs and placing a new access token in my configuration.yaml file. Any help would be appreciated.

Automation condition when certain status for less than x minutes

What i would like to accomplish: when the motion sensor in my bath room senses motion, but the lights in the living room (i have a group of which i can check the status for) have been switched off for less than 6 minutes, i want to do something (set bath room lights at a certain brightness).

I have trouble finding how to do the ‘status of group is off for less than 6 minutes’. I do NOT want to only do it when the status has been off for 6 minutes (which would mean i only get the brightness i want when i enter the bath room exactly 6 minutes (afaik, or maybe also after that) after switching off the living room group. But that isn’t what i want.

I don’t always want to set the same brightness, since when i enter the bath room at night, i want the lights dimmer.

Am i right the “less than” isn’t available? If so, would it be possible and something enough people would use?

But I have problems in getting our covers shown properly.
I would love to have a button that shows the state and provides arrows up/down, but it doesn’t seem to be possible at the moment.
Has anybody done something clever with a button for handling covers?
