Logically combine three binary sensor entities into one

$

0

Let’s say I have multiple binary_sensor entities (ping sensors) like

binary_sensor.www_google_com
binary_sensor.8_8_8_8
binary_sensor.www_whatever_com

How would I possibly logically combine these into one sensor entity?
(if sensor a AND sensor b AND sensor c all evaluate to true, set an overall sensor entity to true)

History-Graph card - Data disappears?

I am using the History-Graph card to monitor my attic temperatures in different zones. In the images below the entity values are from temperature sensors running ESPHome.

In the first image the data is graphing as expected.

BUT, If I do anything, for example edit the card, or leave the panel and come back, the data disappears.

Any ideas where in my configuration should I be looking?

ESP-32 H2/C6 Zigbee

hi, i’m quite new to the game :wave:

i want to create my own sensors and integrate it in my homeassistant. But the position where they’re going to be located isn’t covered by my wifi (so esphome isn’t a option). instead the position is covered by the network of my brother in law ( who also has hoa running with a SM light SLZB-06 coordinator) so i could get the zigbee devices over that via the VPN function. so i read the ESP32 H2/C6 have the zigbee possibility. But everything i find about the zigbee end device example ist only to a zigbee h2 or c6 as a coordinator.

Is there no possibility to configure the esp as an end device and then connect to a SLZB-06 or sonoff stick?

thank you all in advanced and sorry for the long story :face_with_head_bandage:

How to catch calendar events added in-medias-res

$

Hi,

How to catch a calendar event with an automation (trigger?) that gets added “now” with a start date of e.g. yesterday, end date with tomorrow.
Like event start is 2024-05-14, end date is 2024-05-20, now is 2024-05-16.
I’d like to do some action in this case. (Actions on event start work fine, can just happen that the event gets added later, but power shall be still switched on)

Voice Assist and Mispronunciation

$

Hello all:

I’m trying to troubleshoot mispronunciations, especially last names.

I have several VA pipelines, using a ESP32-S3-BOX-3B, some pipelines are all local, some using Nabu Casa, and some using OpenAI (+ Extended OpenAI Conversation)

I can certainly use Extended OpenAI Conversation and change the Prompt Template to instruct OpenAI how to pronounce certain names, but I assume that’s never going to yield positive results as whatever text is returned, Piper/Home Assistant Cloud will be the mechanism for TTS, not Extended OpenAI.

If this is the case, what steps can I take to get Piper/Home Assistant Cloud to have proper pronunciation?

HAOS VM + SkyConnect + Nanoleaf Essentias Matter = stuck on "Checking network connectivity"

$

Hello everyone :slight_smile:

I’ve set up my Home Assistant recently and am trying to add the first device to it, which is the Matter Nanoleaf Essentials light bulb.

What happens:

  • When I try to add a Matter device on an Android companion app, I end up on “Checking network connectivity” and then it won’t connect suggesting to check if the phone is in the same Wi-Fi network etc.

In short:

  • Ubuntu 24.04 server as a host with a VM with HAOS on it. Network is bridged = same LAN.
  • IPv6 present, working, autoconfigured in HA.
  • Let’s Encrypt set up with the domain name - internal/external URLs are the same.
  • I use SkyConnect with Thread-only firmware (not the multiprotocol one)
  • OTBR, Thread and Matter addons installed, running, not showing errors.
  • Border router’s network is set as the preferred one.
  • Companion app’s Thread keys (or however it’s called in English) are properly synchronized with server and use the same network.
  • Ports 5580, 8080 and 8081 unlocked and accessible.I can access OTBR ui on port 8080 from my phone when it’s on Wi-Fi.
  • ICMPv6 enabled as well.
  • Nanoleaf app detects the Thread network, assigns it to the bulb when I click to join, but fails to connect and stays on BLE (though thread network stays assigned in the app’s UI)
  • I don’t have any other hubs like those from Google, Apple etc.

What I’m not sure is if mDNS works for me, I don’t know how to test it. Unfortunately I have the router from ISP and it doesn’t have anything related to it in the admin panel.

What else can I do to debug this? Where could I look for the logs that can possibly give some more information?

Last-changed is not confirmed by History & Logbook

$

There is a belief that “last-changed” really reflects a time when a state changes (at least if HA is not restarted).
Now I see that “last-changed” is not confirmed by History & Logbook.

There is a “device_tracker”.
Here is it’s current state:

Note that “last-changed” is “May 17, 2024 at 00:37:59”.
Same may be got by

But here is a History - and the state was not changed since 23:55:

Same with Logbook:

And same is shown by DB Browser:

The last change of a state was at same 23:55:

331395240-c412a754-0685-4038-9afd-9e0cf033a278

Assume that History & Logbook are based on DB.
Well, I see same point when a state was changed - 23:55.
Means - “last_changed” is WRONG.

P.S. This entity is provided by Mobile App, if it is important.

Virtual Box not passing through Zooz 700 series Zwave stick

I’m not sure this is a ZWave stick issue as much as a Virtual Box issue. I’ve had this Zooz 700 ZST10 S2 stick working previously. After a windows update (Win11), Virtual Box does not seem to pass this USB port along to HA anymore. Normally I would find this in the system hardware as “/dev/serial/by-id/usb-…” or “/dev/ttyACM0” but it’s not there. I’ve updated Virtual Box to latest 7.0.18 r162988 including the extensions. I can see the Zooz stick in USB configuration, it just doesn’t seem to transfter to HA. Anyone seen this before?

History graph card configuration

I’m totally new to HA and am only just scratching the surface of writing code, learning as I go and way below the level of most posts. Anyway, I’m trying to get a history graph using an entity of a fan heater which by default shows three sets of data on the graph - set temperature, actual temperature and heating. What I want is just to show “heating” i.e. the on/off state of this entity, like I can for a switch, over time. I can’t find any way using the code editor to show only one set of data, or any list of what code can be used with the history graph

ZBDongle-E - z2m: Error: Failed to start EZSP layer with status=HOST_FATAL_ERROR

$

Hi All,
I hope you are well.
This one drives me nuts. It’s the worst dongle to start with I reckon not only with Z2M, but how do I know if it’s my first such dongle? But at least I know I should order ZBDongle-P instead (they all look the same).

This is the Z2M config

enabled: false
master: pty,raw,echo=0,link=/tmp/ttyZ2M,mode=777
slave: tcp-listen:8485,keepalive,nodelay,reuseaddr,keepidle=1,keepintvl=1,keepcnt=5
options: "-d -d"
log: false

base_topic: zigbee2mqtt

password: mqtt
server: mqtt://core-mosquitto:1883 <- what is this? do I need it?

port: >-
  /dev/serial/by-id/usb-ITEAD_SONOFF_Zigbee_3.0_USB_Dongle_Plus_V2_20231009115357-if00
adapter: ember

I have upgraded the firmware using the web app from version 6.10.3.0 build 297 to version 7.3.1.0 the latest presented by the web installer but it turned out this firmware version is outdated anyway and leads to another failure where dongle has protocol 12 but HA expects protocol 13.

So then I started reading about this whole situation and various issues people face including some written in German but I don’t understand German so I had to translate it. It turned out one of the latest ones 7.4.2 is also causing issues so someone suggested to install the latest 7.4.3 from 2 weeks ago what I did.

Now you tell me if ncp-uart-hw-v7.4.3.0-zbdonglee-230400.gbl is the right one.
I have no idea what is the difference between ncp, rcp etc. I would have to be a pro or swap my head with ChatGPT to grasp it.

I flashed another firmware image using the same web client (uploaded the image there). It did worked after few tries and re-plugging the dongle which was worrying.
Firmware from here silabs-firmware-builder/firmware_builds/zbdonglee at 4.4.3 · darkxst/silabs-firmware-builder · GitHub

Someone has said that using the web installer is not good and you need to use the universal-silabs-flasher. Apparently something to do with BAUD? Is that correct?

I installed this add-on on my HA but the UI one is crap, does not work, the documentation is incomplete.
I would prefer to use universal-silabs-flasher in the terminal but I reckon it’s on one of the containers, not available on the main SSH terminal.

The current error I am getting with this 4.4.3 firmware is this:

There is something about hardware flow control in this article:

but again I have no idea if this dongle has it or not.

Or should I downgrade to 7.4.1 since I don’t see 7.4.3 in the main repository.

I feel like I need to be permanently plugged in with a fiber to ChatGPT to navigate through these many hops and not let my body to release too much of cortisol into my bloodstream before I have enough. Just kidding have not used ChatGPT in this endeavour but Google search which I don’t like but had to. Please forgive me my language and please advise.
Thank you

Restful Sensor Help - Water Usage

$
0

I am using a RESTFul Sensor which returns the following JSON object. In the example above, the data for the 12th is shown from approx 10am onward on the 13th until approx 10am on the 14th at which it updates to show data from the 13th.
This pattern applies every day.

{
	"status": "OK",
	"usage": [
		{
			"week": "07 Apr 2024 - 13 Apr 2024",
			"days": [
				{
					"date": "07/04/2024",
					"litre": 0
				},
				{
					"date": "08/04/2024",
					"litre": 0
				},
				{
					"date": "09/04/2024",
					"litre": 0
				},
				{
					"date": "10/04/2024",
					"litre": 0
				},
				{
					"date": "11/04/2024",
					"litre": 0
				},
				{
					"date": "12/04/2024",
					"litre": 235
				}
			],
			"target": "",
			"average": "",
			"tracking": ""
		}
	]
}

I want to build a simple bar chart that shows the date above and the litre use for that day. I have tried putting the date and litres into json_attributes but I then have trouble charting the data because it is stored in attributes.

The other issue I have is the because the data for each date can span across several days due to it not updating at midnight.

My thoughts were to recognise when the data fetched is more than 2 days before the current date then drop that data and not record it - as it is a carryover before 10am. Not even sure if this is possible.

Any ideas appreciated on how to get this working.

I followed the guide to set the local Voice Assistant, but I do not get voice feedback, only text. I have local assistant without https, so I have to type requests in chat. I would still expect the audio feedback. Is that no possible with local assistant or without https? Or what am I missing in my configuration?

TTS is working fine as I hear voice if I run the test…

Looking to change Z2M device exposes during automation run

Hello Reader.

I am a new user and just yesterday installed zigbee2mqtt add-on to the home assistant.
I have paired indoor speaker from Neo model number NAS-AB02B2.

I would like to create an automation where the speaker plays a different melody and for a shorter duration than what is configured as default whenever a triggered is fired.

So far I created a HA automation using the visual editor, please see below the YAML code. The automation trace showed all actions triggered but there was no sound from the speaker.

Therefore, I need help to understand if this is achievable, if yes how. I will appreciate any help re: coding, logic etc…

Is there a way to customize how certain devices certain statistics are kept?

For example, I want to keep temp/humidity statistics for 30 days, but want to keep timestamp/last seen from all devices and motion detection events only for 3 days.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks

Validate my naming strategy please

$
0
0

For the last 5 years naming of zwave entities the z-wave integration has annoyed me. I loved how MQTT / ZWAVEJS did it as i could specify a format. This is no longer possible as i want to use the integration for future compatibility / simplicity.

My issue stems from having three areas, each area having a z-wave deadbolt. I need / want the friendly name to be deadbolt in each area.

unfortunately this leads to devices where the entities are called lock.deadbolt, lock.deadbolt_2, lock.deadbolt_3 - this is not helpful when using things like pickers in the dashboard as i have no clue which rooms these are in (this is especially true for things like light switches where i have about 20 of them and they all appear as switch.x) - and don’t get me started on the sensor entities that don’t seem to use the friendly name at all - its impossible to figure out which sensor i need from some types of zwave devices as they are all named the same with just numerics

What i want is my deadbolts entities names to always start as follows:
lock.deadbolt.area.xxxxx

I see that when the z-wave js integration talks to an existing z-wave-js install the integration seems to use the name in zwave-js (but not the area name)

So my thought is:

  1. delete my integration
  2. rename all the names in zwave-js to be friendlyname+area
  3. re-add the integration
  4. remove the area portion by hand from the friendly name on each device and choose to not rename the related entities

then for future devices:

  1. turn of home assistant setting in zwave-js-ui
  2. initiate add from zwave-js-ui and use the naming convention i mention above
  3. turn back on home assistant setting in zwave-js-ui wait for sync
  4. remove the area name from the friendly device name and choose to not change entity names

I can’t think of a better way to achieve what i want and renaming the many devices and entities is not practical as some entities don’t get renamed when selecting the option ‘rename entities’.

Am i missing something? Is there a better way?

Here is another example, imagine i have 10 sink leak detectors - when using pickers in UI for entities how the heck am i supposed to know which of the 10 sensor_node_23_node_staus belongs to which friendly device? i will have 10 of these with v_2, v3_ etc… (i.e. i will have 10 of evey entry you see here with no name and all caled sink, sink_v2 etc if i use the integration as-is).

I have mosquitto broker up and running.

How can I use this in home assistant, especially I want to visualize it with the same MDI icons.

Leakage detection using pump current

$

0

Hello,

Recently I noticed that there is a leakage in my watering system because I was able to see that the pump was active way more frequently while the system did nothing, therefore trying to keep the pressure in the pipes high.

I only found this because I looked at the charts, but it would be great to have an automation that would find those short peaks and check their frequency. If the frequency is too high, there must be something wrong and I want to trigger a notification. I tried my luck with regular automation, however, did not find a way to check for a recent peak.

In general those peaks have typically a duration of about 2 seconds.

Is there an easy way to solve this problem?
