Ecobee remove/ignore sensor from comfort zone when door is open in that zone?

$

Hi, I’ve seen automations that turn the HVAC off when e.g. a door is open, I’d like to remove a remote sensor from a comfort setting when a door is open, did not seem that to be an option in ecobee config?

I have two HVAC systems, upstairs and downstairs, I have remote sensors in every room, I configure the comfort settings to use appropriate sensors. If e.g. the guest bedroom patio door is opened I want to remove the guest bedroom from the comfort setting to ignore the temperature in that room.

Any ideas on how to change sensors in config or how to ignore a sensor reading?

Home Assistant Voice PE - Wake Word

$

Having now received our Home Assistant Voice PE and configured it to work with Home Assistant Cloud, I find it’s not quite as responsive to regional accents as I was hoping.

We’ve (collectively as a household) chosen to use “Hey Jarvis” as our wake word. I’d heard that it might respond best to my broad Scottish accent. However, it has been a hit and miss. It responds every time to our kids, who both have milder accents then me and my wife who has an English accent. I also expected it to perform better in a noisy room than it does. I’ve not tried it with music playing or other device noises, but it seems to struggle if too many people are speaking at the same time. I guess that’s more of a learning process for us as we continue to use it.

I did see this on the HA blog

Does anyone know if this website has been created yet, or is it the same as the open wake word site?

MQTT discovery retain or not for addons

$

Hi,

there are only old topics about retain flag in MQTT discovery.
They didn’t answer my question.

I am developing an addon (GitHub - modbus2mqtt/hassio-addon-repository: Repository for Home Assistant Addon Modbus <=> MQTT) which supports MQTT discovery.

When homeassistant starts, it will also be started.
During initialization, it will send discovery messages.
So, is there really a need to set the retain flag?
If the addon doesn’t set the retain flag, it’s much easier to delete unavailable entities.

What do you think?
What is the benefit of setting the retain flag, if the addon anyhow sends mqtt discovery for the devices available for the addon?

Thank you,

Volkmar

How was a bulb turned on?

$

I’m trying to distinguish the way a zigbee bulb is turned on: by a hass automation vs power on. The bulb is in a standard socket with a standard on-off switch, and I’d like to reset the bulb state after its been powered off.

The bulb is an IKEA bulb, and the log for it tells me the information that I need (eg turned on my automation such and such). So the information is si avilable. How can I access this?

I’ve seen previous posts (eg for thermostats) that try to do the same, but the method didn’t work for me.

Many thanks!

Entity vs device in scenes: can I just add one entity?

I have a Moes dual ZigBee mains dimmer. It controls two mains lights from that device, i.e. one device, two entities.

It seems that in a scene, I have to add the whole device, i.e. both entities, and therefore have to set a state for both entities.

Is there a way to add just one entity to the scene, leaving the other alone?

Yes, I do read your newsletter.
So I tried to place a pre-order for your newly announced Voice device, but no - only users from certain European countries can order it. As a Norwegian, I feel discriminated :no_mouth:
At the very end of your newsletter, your write:

Well, that didn’t work either! Sending emails to ghost.io@m.ghost.io failed with the following return message from MAILER-DEAMON:

Notification when the temperature exceeds a certain value

Hi,

unfortunately I am not able to do this automation which I thought would be simple and therefore I would like to ask for your help.
I use this sensor Water Leak Sensor - Aqara to measure the temperature and I would like to receive a notification on my mobile when the temperature is higher than 14 degrees.
Unfortunately, the notification does not come. When I start the automation manually, the notification comes. So the problem is probably with loading information about the temperature.

Custom paper-row-buttons with variable name fields?

$

I am trying to setup a custom paper-buttons row for my SleepNumber bed.

I have a button for the footwarmer. However, instead of the button simply showing the state of the foot warmer being “ON” or “OFF”, I want to instead it to show the state of a different entity.

The foot warmer is turned on using a switch:
switch.sleep_number_master_suite_foot_warmer

The other entity is a number, showing the time remaining before the foot warmer automatically turns off:
number.sleep_number_master_suite_foot_warming_timer

I have tried to accomplish this with the following code:

type: entities
entities:
  - type: custom:paper-buttons-row
    buttons:
      - entity: switch.sleep_number_master_suite_foot_warmer
	    layout: icon_name
        name: {{ states('number.sleep_number_master_suite_foot_warming_timer') }}

Unfortunately, this does not work. The name just gets set to the state of the foot warmer, instead of having the number of the warming timer.

ZigBee2MQTT with a SLZB-06 on Ethernet

$

Take it easy on my this is the first time I have really dug in deep into HA with anything other than point and click and googling or searching on this web page is tough since so many posts or instructions are quite old and outdated.

I have tried for hours over the past 3 days to get Zigbee2MQTT working on my HA green. I have a Sonoff USB 3.0 on ZHA locally on my HA Green and I have a SLZB-06 in anoher portion of the house actually the basement IT room plugged into the router via POE. I want to have my Sonoff 3.0 on ZHA and my SLZB-06 running Zig2MQTT. I have followed all the instructions I could find on YouTube and also searched the documentation and no luck. When I try to open the Z2M UI it tells me 502 Bad Gateway. My brain is mush now from trying so many different things and even deleting mosquito and MQTT several times and starting from scratch.

I can access the SLZB-06 via it’s IP address and all looks fine but it does not show as active in the corner for Z2M/ZHA. I have cut and pasted the config file as asked in the UI to HA using the YAML editor. I get the feeling it’s a closed port, I have never dug into HA this deeply, I have googled the docs for ports and such and do not see any instructions as to where to go to to check if HA has the ports open.

Notification and/or Auto Entity for all devices "last seen" in over X time

$

Looking for a way to gather all devices that haven’t been seen in a certain amount of time (12 hours for example). The end goal is to ensure all devices are still connected/communicating, because battery readings are not always the best and sometimes devices disconnect regardless of batteries as well. I already have automation for “unavailable” so I guess “last seen” is the most optimal target? That should work at least for Z-Wave and Zigbee devices.

Any help would be appreciated.

Zwave Nodes Keep Dying

$

I have a Zooz 800 LR GPIO module and 73 nodes with a mixture of meshed and direct connect. I was originally having issues with my Kwikset HC620, but I recently built a Node-Red flow to capture all dead nodes and ping them to bring them back online and I am noticing I get a lot of different nodes that go “dead”. Not sure if this was happening before I started monitoring and is normal, or if something else is going on. Most nodes come back with the immediate ping but I do have a few that will stay dead until I manually trigger them (or trigger them with an Aux switch).

Would appreciate any suggestions on how to troubleshoot and try t

Zigbee Temp & Humidity Sensor rapid battery drain when connected to home assistant

$

I’m experiencing CR2032 batteries die within a 12 hour period once I connect the Temp & Humidity Sensors to Home assistant. Can anyone offer any advice on how I can troubleshoot to work out what could be causing the rapid drain.

Bit of supporting info if required:

  • Zigbee Temp & Humidity Sensor ZTH05
  • HomeAssistant running on VM on Synology NAS 423+
  • Zigbee coordinator is Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1 (via official extender into NAS)
  • Distance from coordinator to sensor is 2 meters with line of sight.

I’ve tried checking the logbook to see if there’s some logs which might show something continually activating but in logbook I only see one event when filtering on the device which just says when it became unavailable. Tried a brand new battery and it drained it flat within 12 hours and when not connected to Homeassistant they were fine for a week before I got home assistant up and running. Are there any more detailed logs or common issues of where to begin investigating the issue?

Changing template query makes ha crash

$

I use auto-entities and I use this template

  template: >-
    {{ states.sensor  | selectattr('attributes.device_class', '==',
    'temperature') | selectattr('last_updated', '<=', now() -
    timedelta(hours=18)) | map(attribute='entity_id') | list}}

now I also want to find stale humidity sensors,
So I modified this to:

  template: >-
    {{ states.sensor | selectattr('attributes.device_class', 'search',
    '(temperature|humidity)') | selectattr('last_updated', '<=', now() -
    timedelta(hours=18)) | map(attribute='entity_id') | list}}

but for some reason this makes HA crash/loose connection

Music Assistant, and different "brand" LLMs

$

I sort of waffled on if this is a HA question or a MA question, but I think it’s an HA question.

I’ve been trying to get the LLM integration working between voice assistants in HA and a Music Assistant install, and have run into some issues. I have MA’s HACS integration tied to a ChatGPT conversation agent, and it seems to work perfectly fine. I can send pretty complex requests to it, and it does the right thing the majority of the time.

The core isuue I’ve got is that I run Google AI as the LLM in my HA install, because the HA ChatGPT integration is so wordy and uses so many tokens, making ChatGPT especially expensive. Particularly as compared to “free”, which Google AI is. The MA integration basically doesn’t work with Google AI – it only sporadically understands and the response doesn’t seem to trigger the intent and actually cause something to happen, You just get JSON text as a response. So, I’m kinda stuck with ChatGPT for MA and Google AI for HA.

The problem I seem to have is that voice commands sent to Google AI seem to only occasionally cause the MA integration to happen. So if was to say, as an example “Play the first two songs from Pink Floyd’s second album on the kitchen speakers”, ChatGPT on HA will trigger the right command to happen in MA and it works fine. That exact same command sent to Google AI results in “I am sorry, I cannot fulfill this request. I cannot search for music.”

The docs aren’t especially clear how the execution path works jumping between the voice assistant config, the conversation engine, how that works with regard to intents and triggering things in integrations like the Music Assistant one. Like there’s clearly something being told to the LLM that ChatGPT is understanding and Google AI isn’t.

Does anyone know if there’s any way to get this to work? (I suspect the same issue would be true with someone using an local LLM, as well?)

"Template variable warning: 'title' is undefined when rendering '{{ title }}'"

$

I’m very new to HASS, and am fiddling around with intents.

I’m trying to have it play music titles using youtube music. I was able to get this to work by building a custom integration, then an automation that matches on fixed sentene structures. I can add multiple sentences, but I wanted to have it match more loosely, so I give it a coupe example sentences and the llm (in my case Google Generative AI) will match it with the intent.

So I created the following media.yaml file in ./homeassistant/custom_sentences/en:

language: "en"
intents:
  PlayTitle:
    data:
      - sentences:
        - "Play {title} on YouTube Music"
        - "Play the song {title} on YouTube Music"
        - "Can you play the song {title} on YouTube Music"
        - "Get the song {title} on YouTube Music"
        - "I want to listen to the song {title} on YouTube Music"
        # more examples...
        slots:
          domain: "title"
        requires_context:
          area:
            slot: true
lists:
  title:
    wildcard: true

Then I created ./intent_scripts.yaml

PlayTitle:
description: "Play a song on YouTube Music"
  action:
    - service: youtube_music.play_song
      data:
        title: "{{ title }}"
  speech:
text: "Playing the song {{ title }} on YouTube Music."

And my configuration.yaml looks like this

...
ytmusic:
conversation:

intent_script: !include intent_scripts.yaml

ytmusic is my custom integration.

So I tested it out by saying something like “Can you start {title} on Youtube Music?”, and the agent replies that it’s playing, but in the logs console I just see this
Template variable warning: 'title' is undefined when rendering '{{ title }}'
Template variable warning: 'title' is undefined when rendering 'Playing the song {{ title }} to Youtube Music.'

I’ve really been struggling having my intent_script get access to the title. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice?
