Nibe heat pump - Example setup

$

Hi!
I’ve recently hooked up my Nibe heat pump (F750) to Home Assistant using the Nibe integration and an esphome device. Everything is working smoothly.
I went in this without thinking and now that it is connect, I don’t really know what to do with it so am looking for some examples, both in dashboard and automations.

Is there anyone running this integration that wouldn’t mind to share his/her setup?

I am using a heat curve to steer it’s heat and it’s just a set once and never look at it again approach.if it does happen to get too cold in the house we just fire up the woodstove to compensate rather than adjust the curve.
For warm water I’m using a time based schema where i basically turn off the pump’s hot water between 15:00 and 24:00 every day. It works for our needs.
I will probably change this last thing by removing that schema on the pump itself, and just toggle it from HA based on electricity prices, time of day and the heat of the water. But here I’m struggling to find the correct entity to interact with, for example “select.hot_water_comfort_mode_47041” is the mode, but there is no “off” mode.

Any examples are greatly appreciated! thanks!

Icons to use as gauge?

I’d like to use icons to indicate levels. Similar to the battery charge indicator but more generic. Could be a needle moving from left to right, or a bar growing from bottom to top. Is there anything available that could be adapted?

Thanks

Unable to login with diferent user when trusted_user set

Hello.

I set up my first HA for my parents, to help them control old heating system.
I set for them basic user (without admin privileges) and set, that this user is automatically log in, when accessing HA from local network 192.168.1.0/24.
I have the - type: homeassistant set.

Problem is, that I’m now not able to connect with my admin account. HA automatically log me in as basic user, and when I click on log out, it log in again automatically.

I see it as a bug. In my opinion manual log out should not do automatic login, or there should be option to change user to overcome this situation.

I don’t have any remote access to the system, so now I’m stuck without admin access (except directly by SSH to RPi).

HA, UPS & Power

Hello friends,

Running Home Assistant on HAGreen, I ordered an UPS with USB connection.
My HAGreen box and my ADSL box (BBox) are protected by UPS against power cut.

My UPS USB Cable being USB-connected to one of my HA’s USB ports,
I defined automation to trigger power cut down (UPS on bat enabled) and to send me notifications in case of power events. The Internet box being also protected by UPS, Ok no prob to send notification via SMTP, SMS (via SevenIO) or even Smarphone’s notification.

I defined automations that monitor UPS Battery level. When UPS bat < 15%, HA initiates is own shutdown properly. My setup works like a charm.

  • When bat is at 0% and power is resumed, HA reboot normally after proper shutdown.

  • When power is resumed while battery level is > 15%, fully transparent, the UPS Bat starts recharging and HA stay up and running.

But I still have a school case I cannot solve yet, needing your advises : if power is resumed while UPS battery level is between 0 and 15, … the power is not cut behind the ups and the HA Green box plug remains powered up but HA is shutdown.

Any idea how to wake it up ? Make me crazy …
Connect additional devices on the UPS to faster its drain ?

Wishing you all happy new year …

FireTV "Now Playing" image

$

Hi all.
So I have FireTV in the UK, and i am using it to watch iPlayer, ITVX, Netflix, Prime Video and so on.
I have HA configured so that I have a Camera Stream picking up the “now playing image” from the FireTV (through Android ADB).

However, the image is only valid when you are browsing around the FireTV… when you actually play something it goes black/blank. I think this is something to do with DRM.

I am wondering if there is a way to NOT update the Camera Image when the Now Playing image from ADB is blank, so that my (lets call it persistent) image on the camera feed is the latest image that shows what I was about to watch before I actually watched it (and before it went blank). ?

Obviously this is needed, since the Now Playing attributes from the Android ADB only tell you what SOURCE you are watching, not what CONTENT you are watching.

This make sense to anyone?
cheers.

Network Share - Backups to macOS

$

I have migrated my Home Assistant Green to a NUC using the backup option in Home Assistant .

All good.

I would like to have Home Assistant create its backups on another disk and not the one it is sunning on.

So spent a day trying to setup Home Assistant Network Storage to put backups on my macOS computer which has a large amount of disk space free 30TB odd.

Created a SMB share on the macOS - and created a Share User hassbu and a temporally simple pwd.

On another Mac I can run smb://hassbu@192.168.1.36/hassbu in a browser and it opens Finder and mounts the SMB

SO trying to use same settings in Home Assistant Add Network Storage

And it fails.

I am unsure how in macOS you check logs for mount or systemd anyone got any suggestions?

Supervisor on Sidebar

I am new to HAOS, so excuse the lame question.

I see in lots of YouTubes the ‘Supervisor’ button in the sidebar, but I cannot see it in the current version I have just installed.
I understand Supervisor was a separate add-on ?? but has now been included in the main HA install and appears in the settings under ‘Integrations’, is this the reason its not shown in the sidebar.

I see this YouTube, it calls the supervisor a ‘panel’, and advises how to add it to the side bar, at least i think that is the videos purpose:

Add Home Assistant Supervisor panel on HAOS 2023

Displaying values of multiple sensors in WearOS App

$

How can I display the results of my sensors on the WearOS HA app?

I don’t need anything fancy – just a list of sensors and their current values. Something akin to the Lovelace Overview dashboard in the Web GUI – ideally with the ability to choose which sensors to display and their order so as to avoid excessive scrolling on a small screen.
Even better if I could create multiple “panels” grouping related sensors that I could then left-right swipe between while up/down swiping to scroll within a panel.

Is this possible?

Zigbee2mqtt crashing and errors

Hi all,

I recently moved my HAOS from a VM to the Homeassistant_inabox docker container in unRaid. Ever since, I have been having multiple issues with z2m. I have tried both the Sonoff Dongle-E which I had been using for several years without issue and I have tried to SLZB-06. Both of which give me these errors:

Short life time battery for AQARA SRTS-A01 (thermostatic valves)

$

Hello,

I bought 5 thermostatic valves in October (Aqara SRTS-A01). I am using them by sending a setting temperature 2 times per day and I am using an outside value of temperature for regulation and this working well. BUT … I already changed some battery.

As my batteries were new ones, I think that I have to optimize my settings on zigbee2mqtt. I can see on Z2M that these valves are updated too often. I tried to change the value of ‘min rep interval’ but I have to select one attribute and I would like to change the value on the whole sensor attributes (on this sensors there are a lot of attributes). How to change this value on the whole sensor, if possible ?

Anyone already encoutered this problem of short life time battery ? How did you solve it ?

Many thanks for your help.

Ways to run a 2nd add-on for zwave-js-ui?

$

0

I want to add a second z-wave controller away from my main house controller (for Long Range).

The Home Assistant Z-Wave integration supports multiple “hubs” so that doesn’t seem like much of a problem. But I need another instance of zwave-js-ui to manage the controller.

One option is to run zwave-js-ui in Docker on it’s own server (e.g. Raspberry Pi) and then add a hub with a url like: ws://my-remote-zwave-js-server.local:3000. I’m not sure how concerned to be about that security-wise.

Here’s my add-on question:

I’m considering using a serial-over-ethernet Z-wave controller (like the TubesZB kit), so I don’t really need another machine to run zwave-js-ui. I don’t think there’s way to run a 2nd copy of an add-on, but is there any reason the second copy couldn’t be run as a local add-on?

For example, could I bring in the zwave-js-ui add-on code as a local add-on and modify the slug in the add-on’s config.yaml to make the supervisor start the container with a different hostname?

Or are there other things that would need to be changed to allow the add-on to run? That is, something to make the add-on seem unique to the supervisor as a different add-on?

Thanks,

Thread for information on Locally Controllable Air Vents

$

Background:

I have Flair vents which all talk to a flair “puck” which talks to a cloud setup and there is an HA integration to talk to the cloud to try to copntrol the vents. It works well but is very slowly due to being cloud AND the company not being responsive to any changes in the way things work (they ave no interest in going local), and they actually state “within a minute” a vent would open when you tell it to open, even if you are just using their phone app.

Regarding other manufacturers, there is Keen which is local and works with HA - ( Smart Vent – Keen Home ) but some people say they are going out of business… All the buttons on their website to buy anything are disabled, and the support link is not working…

I found these as a start -

Raspberry PI PICO 2W: Smart Floor Vents to Save on Heating Bills!

I would love to hack my flair vents to make them local and thought I should start a thread here where people are working on this concept as DYI… to see what other videos/instructions/ideas are available that people can share here…

How to get all the entities within a Domain with the same label

$

I have a label (Plant Light) that has both light entities and switch entities. I know I can use something like:

{% set Plant_lights = label_entities('Plant Light')  | list%}
{% for item in Plant_lights %}
 {% if states[item].domain == 'light'%}
 {{item}}
 {% endif %}
{% endfor %}

to filter the label entities by domain, but is there a shorter, 1 line filter I’m missing? I’m guessing by using select(), but I can’t seem to work it out.

YAML vs UI

$

I am a relatively new HA user but with extensive home automation experience with other platforms. I like the expedience of using the UI but frequently need to build out a more complex solution in YAML. I have split some of my configuration files into directories - specifically automations reside across numerous YAML files. Now when I use the UI to create an automation, it puts it in automations.yaml, which is ignored since it’s not in the automations directory. Did I miss a step or can one not use both hardcoded YAML and the UI?

Directory assignments from my configuration.yaml:

automation: !include_dir_merge_list automations/
script: !include scripts.yaml
scene: !include scenes.yaml
mqtt:
  sensor: !include_dir_merge_list mqtt/sensors/
  switch: !include mqtt/switch.yaml
binary_sensor: !include binary_sensors.yaml
sensor: !include sensors.yaml
group: !include groups.yaml

Manual Trigger in Automation

Hi guys,

I would like to create an automation. The automation is initially triggered by a button in the dasboard. It should then ask for a time.

So time x should be entered manually. When time x has elapsed, the socket should switch off again. E.g. for a light.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible with simple board centres? I am new to HA so… pls forgive me the question.

Trace overview of an automation

$

Hello,
My automations are becoming a bit more complex over time, and especially when it comes to checking if they are running correctly, I’ve been wondering if HA could represent them a bit better. I briefly tried using Node-RED, but I couldn’t really get into it. What I did like about Node-RED was the visualization – when something is triggered, the corresponding path is taken. HA works similarly, but now I’ve reached a point with one of my automations where the overview gets a bit lost. The automation works, though.

It is an OR block with two AND blocks that are supposed to toggle a switch.

In the trace overview, it is represented as follows.

2

Is there a way to have this overview displayed correctly, rather than everything being merged into a single circle as it is now?

Best regards.

Recommended in-wall switch for Zigbee controlled shutters

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a simple-to-add shutter switch for zigbee. I’ve tried the LoraTapSC400ZB, but ZHA recognises it but doesn’t provide any controls. I saw that there are some old posts about modifying these, but really, as I have so many to install, I reall was just looking for a plug and play without an external dongle, like the Shelly.

CSS font-size of calendar card heading

I try to change the font size of the calendar card heading with card_mod, so more specifically the date which is shown in the header. I looked up the corresponding selectors in the website inspector and tried to adjust the font size, but unfortunately without success.
calendar
Is there a superordinate element that controls or overwrites the font size? Here is my YAML example:

card_mod:
style: |
h1.controls {
font-size: 10px !important;
