Zigbee Power Meter _TZE204_fhvdgeuh

Hi, did anyone have luck getting this zigbee power meter (_TZE204_fhvdgeuh) to work with HA?

I found some patches scattered around, and some quirks that might work, but never got it running. It recognizes the devices, but without any useful sensor

WiFi and iPhone strange issue

So this is strange. At home I have 2 WiFi networks ‘Home’ and ‘Home_Guest’. My HA was setup on the ‘Home_Guest’ network.

On my iPad when at home I can login into HA regardless regardless of which WiFi network I am connected to. On my phone if I am connected to the ‘Home’ WiFi it will not connect, I have to switch to the ‘Home_Guest’ WiFi network. Once logged in I can switch back to the ‘Home’ network and it works fine. The problem only occurs after I am out of WiFi range and come back in.

Any thoughts?

I am reading the status of my door contacts via Mqtt.
They are definid in the yaml file and they are 0 or 1 (magnet closed or magnet open
I would like the icon in the heading card to change based on this value.
I tried several things i found on the forum (with if statements), but nothing seems to work.
Can this be done without changing the yaml file for all the sensors?

Lost internet and wifi connections on main router

I lost 2 routers in a day and left me with nothing to run my medical things.
I di have lights that would work by a remote but got some that do not have this with lights and now it’s hard to use them at all really.

I have a Ikoolcore R2 that needs to be connected by ethernet I think to run Home Assistant but don’t quote me on this Im guessing.

I have by luck just managed to bet a wifi dongle into one PC to get an internet connection until Virgin get to me Monday.

But I’d rather not wait due to medical things not working as needed.

Is it possible to get a connection to the Ikoolcore R2 from my PC that has its Dongle in it?

Or is it a case of I have to wait for services to get back up and running on the main router that when to another router to run the wifi, both have broken and Im unable to get into them and virgins router has no power to it.

So no clue what has gone on during the night as everything was running fine until this morning.

Any help on this would be great

Error when using Jinja in action payload

I want to set up an automation that sets the fan speed of an air purifier depending on the pm2.5 level. I’m getting an error “Message malformed: template value should be a string for dictionary value @ data[‘actions’][0][‘data’]”. I tried both: creating this through the UI and directly in the yaml file.

What am I doing wrong?

Thread border router error on Android phone

I’m trying get a couple of onvis plugs to work after a power outage and surge seemingly caused them to stop working. I removed the devices from HA, reset them and started to get one working again. I scan the QR code, and it appears that the device is recognized and then get a message that a Thread border router was needed.
Also, this is the first time adding a matter device with this phone. The screen cracked in my last one and was replaced.

Any thoughts?
Thanks

Hi there,

I dont know if this ist the correct category, but i could not find a category for automations.

I could not find this topic yet and my google search was also not very successful.

Is it possible to make an automation with the sentence for example :"Set language to: "

And then create an action that will set the language of the voice assistant (Settings → Voice Assistants → [assistantX] → Configuration → Language) to this language?

Help me understand history stats and timers

$

Hello all!

I’m having the following project idea in order to protect the battery of my stick vacuum cleaner (the battery would get warm during usage and charging warm lithium batteries is far from ideal): on the charger I have a window contact sensor (binary_sensor.vacuum_charger_contact) and a magnet on the vacuum to detect when the vacuum is not in the cradle. A socket sits between the charger and the power grid (switch.vacuum_plug).
The automation idea is something like this:

  • when the vacuum is removed, start counting the time (I’m guessing history stats would help me)
  • when the above counter reaches 2 minutes, turn off the socket (if the vacuum was only used briefly, the battery most probably is still cold)
  • when the vacuum is back in its cradle, start a timer that has the same length as the above counter and reset the counter
  • to avoid any ridiculous situations, if the counter is longer than 30 minutes, keep the timer at 30 minutes
What I cannot figure out on my own is how to set up the history stats sensor. The timer will probably be started with “Timer: Start”, but I’m not 100% that this is the right way.

Thanks for any input and I hope someone might also benefit from my idea!

Is it Z-Wave or just me?

$

So, back when I ran on Lowe’s Iris (which was zigbee based), I had a very simple door chime automation set up that worked reliably. Open door, keypad goes beep. Of course, Lowe’s probably sells more candy bars in a given day than they ever did home automation equipment, so we all know how that went.

When I moved to Hubitat, it seemed like switching to z-wave was a no-brainer. But I could never quite get door chime to work reliably. Delays, double-chimes, missed chimes - it was kinda useless. Given the issues they had with hub lockups in their first generation, I blamed Hubitat and eventually moved to HA. By that point, the Iris keypads wouldn’t pair anymore, so I went through some struggles to find anything that would just make a simple chime - Aeotec doorbell to the rescue. I had to claim like 6 warranty repairs on that thing, so I blamed that for the ongoing problems I had with this simple automation. I tried some alarms and various other attempts and there was always some plausible reason why this wouldn’t work. Then the Ring keypad was released! Finally a good z-wave option for a chime! But then the notorious z-wave bug was identified and with the controller locking up constantly, it was easy to assume that was the reason I continued to have the same problems. We also had a child somewhere in there so my HA efforts paused for a while.

Now that I have a little more time and the z-wave bugs are supposedly fixed (and my child is just old enough that I really want notified if a door is opened), I decided to get this fixed. I bought a bunch of Zooz 800-series door/window sensors, upgraded my zooz controller to the 800-series with the newest firmware, paired the Ring keypad… and I’ve still got the same problems. Sometimes it’s lightning fast. Sometimes it’s 3-5 seconds before I hear the chime. Sometimes it’s lost. I have similar problems if I try z-wave motion sensors to control lights (my Samsung Zigbee motion sensor has worked for years without a hitch).

I tried using the VAPE as my chime (fully expecting it to be slower) and it’s no better. I tried the Ecolink alarm/chime and it’s comically quiet but also didn’t help. I tried Ring Z-wave door sensors and it hasn’t helped. I realized that the only piece of equipment I didn’t replace entirely was the Aetoec HDSS, so I unpaired that, and turned off reporting on my z-wave plugs, and removed some repeaters and rebuilt the network a bunch of times. Still the same delays/missed chimes.

This problem has followed me across 2 platforms (3 if your could openzwave to zwavejs), 3 different trigger devices, 5 different chime devices, and even 2 houses. The ZwaveJS UI shows a decent mesh. I do see a fair number of tx/rx errors, but I can’t find any info about what is considered “good” - some devices have zero errors, some have maybe 5%. At this point there are only Zooz and Ring Zwave 700/800 devices on my network. Debug logs aren’t showing traffic more than once every 10-30 seconds.

I see a handful of posts about similar issues, but I see just as many comments about how great zwave is, so I’m really stumped as to what my problem can be. Several commercial platforms are z-wave based, so I can’t imagine it’s really “supposed” to have these delays, but if I didn’t have this chime setup I might not notice the delays when it’s just smartplugs and locks.

So, my question is - Am I really just the most unlucky z-wave user in the world and I just need to try to start over yet again, or is this the best I can expect from z-wave and I should just try to get a zigbee solution going again?

Oh, and kind of a tangent, but if I do start over, what’s the opinion on pairing edge devices like door/window via the mesh vs. activating LR mode and trying to pair straight to the controller?

Thanks for any insights!

Broken OpenThread network

$

I own one Matter via OpenThread device and it was working great for a couple of months now.

Somehow it stopped working a few days ago, but I did not investigate it. Today I did some restarting and fiddling around but could not get it to work. Because it is only one device I decided to reinstall the OpenThread Border Router
addon and reset the device to build up from scratch. But even that is not working.

After adding the device all seems to go smooth but after a while the Companion app says it cannot connect to the thread network. In the OTBR logging I notice the following:

00:00:27.467 [N] Mle-----------: RLOC16 2000 -> fffe
00:00:27.824 [N] Mle-----------: Attach attempt 1, AnyPartition reattaching with Active Dataset
00:00:34.324 [N] RouterTable---: Allocate router id 8
00:00:34.324 [N] Mle-----------: RLOC16 fffe -> 2000
00:00:34.325 [N] Mle-----------: Role detached -> leader
00:00:34.325 [N] Mle-----------: Partition ID 0x5e4a3439
[NOTE]-BBA-----: BackboneAgent: Backbone Router becomes Primary!
00:00:36.261 [W] DuaManager----: Failed to perform next registration: NotFound

So my guess is the app (or device?) can reach the addon but it is not able to find a way back?

I’m out of ideas for now.

Some details about my config:

  • Core 2025.2.3
  • Supervisor 2025.02.1
  • Operating System 14.2
  • Frontend 20250210.0
  • Sonoff OT dongle

Tts.speak only working with elevenlabs

$

Hi,
I have a 6 month old home assistant OS setup and initially implemented tts.speak with elevenlabs using picoreplayers for zoned audio. that currently works perfect, however, i tried switching to piper, picotts, and local tts and none of those work. When i try to play anything on any mediaplayer other than the browser, the speakers clip/click and then nothing, no sound. the media player will continue playing indefinitely until i pause it. this happens on every tts.speak except elevenlabs. It exactly mirrors this problem(GitHub · Where software is built), however the solution does not work. I am not using SSL, i quadruple checked my network host settings, i uninstalled and reinstalled piper/wyoming, picotts and no change and no debugging errors that i can see. Anyone have any ideas?

Any Updates on the Home Assistant Card Redesign?

Hey Home Assistant Team,

I heard during a “recent” livestream that you’re working on redesigning the cards. However, there haven’t been many details shared, and it seems to be a pretty secretive project.

Could you share an update on the state of the redesign? And if possible, maybe give us a little sneak peek at what’s coming? It would be great to get an idea of what to expect and how it might improve our dashboards.

Looking forward to any insights!

Thanks!

Hi there!

Im really new to Home Assistant and things like YAML, so please be gentle.

I have 2 giant geckos from a little island in new calediona and me and my wife wanted to get the conditions as close as possible. Is there a possibility to make an automation which activates a light at sunrise and deactivates it at sunset for this specific location?

Garage Door Sensor

$

Hi all,
I know this subject has been discussed like:

But I am a total newbe in Home Assistant, just installed the server on my Ubuntu using docker.
I have many IOT devices, including Shelly and others, I saw HA has find all those devices and sensors. I am using Shelly to open and close the garage door, in addition, I have installed reed sensors so Shelly will report the status of the door.
I do see a sensor on HA as “Garage Door Input Status” which is the reed sensor status from Shelly. I also can see in the HA log book the status of the door(running or cleared). I want to take the status to inform me by HA. I normally use prowl to provide status.

This is my first project with HA, so bear with me for a newbe. Questions:

  1. Do I have to insert commends in yaml to have notifications sent to me? Or if there is a canned scene in HA that I can use to send notifications? In Shelly app, I just have to configure a scene to receive notifications, I am using Shelly cloud, NOT MQTT.
  2. If #1 is not possible Which yaml and where I should insert yaml programs if I am using Docker HA?
  3. I saw a lot of templates in the forum for garage sensors, but I did not see that sends out notifications on actions. Am I missing some thing?
  4. I know yaml programs needs to be formatted, had a lot of problem with docker compose, which yaml editor is best for HA.
  5. I know the Docker HA does not provide HA add-ons, you have to hunt for it, should I reinstall it with HA OS? I was able to install HACS nevertheless.

Restarts force resetting thermostat mode

$

I have five rooms with individual temperature sensors controlling heating panels via WiFi plugs and generic thermostats. The setup is working fine.

The issue I have is that each time I update Home Assistant and it reconnects, all the thermostats revert to “Off” mode and I have to manually go to each thermostat and select “Heat” mode again. If I forget to do so, the house sometimes cools down before I notice my oversight.

Automations seem unaffected.

Is there a setting that will allow the thermostats to “remember” their most recent mode setting after the restart? This would not mean that they would all be in “Heat” mode automatically, but rather that they simply continue where they left off.

Web Frontend hangs on loading data; iOS works fine (more in text)

$

I’ve been working with HA for a few months now. I’m a long-time geek but not a networking specialist.

Everything was going pretty good until I changed internet providers (from AT&T fiber to Spectrum)

Now when I try to sign onto the web from my laptop (windows 11) I get hung on “loading data” (both from IP and homeassistant.local:8123 both Edge and Chrome - and yes I know they’re the same engine but I don’t have other browsers installed)
However, from my iPad or iPhone, works fine. also from iPad browser works fine (both from IP and from homeassistant.local:8123 and in both Safari & Chrome)

I am running HA on the pre-built “green” box and have had no issues. No weird customizations, I have ESPHome and HACS installed as well as Music Server.

I had made no integration, device, or configuration changes between working and not working, just the internet swap.

The SSID and password is the same between the old internet and the new (I’m lazy and have too many devices) and every other device reconnected fine - sometimes with a restart.

My logs don’t show any fatal errors (but I did some cleanup of my yamls based on some non-critical stuff that showed up from my tablet and it made no difference)

I did reserve a static IP on the new Spectrum router (hadn’t needed to on the old AT&T router) and no change. (Tried port forwarding as well, no change)

Aside: I DESPISE the stock Spectrum router - there’s no guest network and not enough advanced options IMHO so if anyone has suggestions for routers - I tend to need a mesh or extender to get my garage door to play nice but otherwise the house is pretty small (a little over 1500 sqft) and don’t have a kitchen or other oddities in the middle to cause signal disruption.

I tried all the variations on the network settings on HA - turning off IPv6, static IPv4, automatic IPv4, automatic for both IPv4 and IPv6, reset all to the base config - yes I verified the DNS and the mask - reset HA and tested between each change. No effect.

From my iPad I can see that it’s correctly detecting the network adapter. Everything’s working great from the iOS devices.

Yes I have backups, though since there’d been no changes I’m not sure that’s the answer.
Yes I can pull everything down to factory settings & do a fresh setup - but that’d mean a bunch of re-building of dashboards & stuff I’d really rather not, PLUS I always learn more when I struggle through this kind of problem solving.

I’m just honestly stumped as to what to look at next. Linux & derivatives are foreign territory to me and this is my first encounter with Pi.

I don’t know if this is a Spectrum issue, and issue with this gawds-awful router, a config issue because I changed network/hardware and just don’t know (or can’t get to) where to update the setting… if the answer is buy a new router and change [whatever setting] I’m down with that and have Amazon Prime.

Any advice or experience would be greatly helpful. I’ve already searched the posts and all of the resolutions here, and tried a bunch of them that seemed they might apply, with no effect.

OLLAMA integration: How many Parameter for the LLM?

$

hello, i installed a local llama 3.1-8.0B.
I cant go any further since im running a quadro rtx4000.

Today i tried to connect HA to the machine and it was asking me which language model i want to use.
I am confused - i have the language model already installed and i can use it with open webui.
Anyway, im open to use another one but there are no Parameters visable so its hard for me to choose the best LLM.
There is LLAMA3 and LLAMA3.2 but with how many parameters?
If you check: library
the LLAMA3 has the option for 8b and 70b and the 3.2 has 1b and 3.

On my VM i have LLAMA3.2-8B installed and it runs way better then what homeassistant installed (i think) so yeah, can someone explain?
Thanks

"Here Comes The Bus" - anyone integrated into HA?

$

My kid’s school uses an app “Here Comes The Bus” for letting parents know where their kid’s bus is and alerts as it nears the bus stop.

A web search shows a few hacked together integrations that seem on the older side.

They do send emails, so one option would be to integrate it via an email or IMAP integration, but it’s not very reliable.

Anyone actively integrated Here Comes the Bus into their HA?
