I’ve been working with HA for a few months now. I’m a long-time geek but not a networking specialist.
Everything was going pretty good until I changed internet providers (from AT&T fiber to Spectrum)
Now when I try to sign onto the web from my laptop (windows 11) I get hung on “loading data” (both from IP and homeassistant.local:8123 both Edge and Chrome - and yes I know they’re the same engine but I don’t have other browsers installed)
However, from my iPad or iPhone, works fine. also from iPad browser works fine (both from IP and from homeassistant.local:8123 and in both Safari & Chrome)
I am running HA on the pre-built “green” box and have had no issues. No weird customizations, I have ESPHome and HACS installed as well as Music Server.
I had made no integration, device, or configuration changes between working and not working, just the internet swap.
The SSID and password is the same between the old internet and the new (I’m lazy and have too many devices) and every other device reconnected fine - sometimes with a restart.
My logs don’t show any fatal errors (but I did some cleanup of my yamls based on some non-critical stuff that showed up from my tablet and it made no difference)
I did reserve a static IP on the new Spectrum router (hadn’t needed to on the old AT&T router) and no change. (Tried port forwarding as well, no change)
Aside: I DESPISE the stock Spectrum router - there’s no guest network and not enough advanced options IMHO so if anyone has suggestions for routers - I tend to need a mesh or extender to get my garage door to play nice but otherwise the house is pretty small (a little over 1500 sqft) and don’t have a kitchen or other oddities in the middle to cause signal disruption.
I tried all the variations on the network settings on HA - turning off IPv6, static IPv4, automatic IPv4, automatic for both IPv4 and IPv6, reset all to the base config - yes I verified the DNS and the mask - reset HA and tested between each change. No effect.
From my iPad I can see that it’s correctly detecting the network adapter. Everything’s working great from the iOS devices.
Yes I have backups, though since there’d been no changes I’m not sure that’s the answer.
Yes I can pull everything down to factory settings & do a fresh setup - but that’d mean a bunch of re-building of dashboards & stuff I’d really rather not, PLUS I always learn more when I struggle through this kind of problem solving.
I’m just honestly stumped as to what to look at next. Linux & derivatives are foreign territory to me and this is my first encounter with Pi.
I don’t know if this is a Spectrum issue, and issue with this gawds-awful router, a config issue because I changed network/hardware and just don’t know (or can’t get to) where to update the setting… if the answer is buy a new router and change [whatever setting] I’m down with that and have Amazon Prime.
Any advice or experience would be greatly helpful. I’ve already searched the posts and all of the resolutions here, and tried a bunch of them that seemed they might apply, with no effect.
