Trying to use ChatGPT as a backup when HA Cloud doesn't understand the request

$

I’ve been trying to get ChatGPT working as a backup for when the Home Assistant system doesn’t understand the request BUT I haven’t been able to get it working. So I asked for help in the Facebook group. And was told that it’s currently not possible – even though I could’ve sworn that a recent release party videos indicated it COULD BE done.

So I submitted a feature request ([Use ChatGPT (or other conversation agent) as a backup when the first conversation agent doesn't understand the request])

One of the moderators provided a link indicating that it’s already possible and closed the FR thread. But I’m still unable to get it working.

I have Home Assistant Cloud set as the preferred Conversation Agent (CA) and ChatGPT also listed.

When I ask my VPE, to “turn off the lights in the office”, it says “sorry, I don’t understand”. But if I use the HA Companion app to activate Assist, select ChatGPT as the CA and ask the SAME QUESTION, it responds by turning off the lights in the office and by saying that it did so.

Here’s a link to a short video recorded using my phone’s camera when I did the VPE test mentioned above.
https://youtube.com/shorts/-ND_nbKBsDo?si=E29EfsZA8uS5K9u5

Here’s a link to a short video that is a screen recording in which I performed the test mentioned above using the Companion app. Excuse the mess I the background – I’m in the middle of a remodel and there’s dust everywhere right now along with stray papers and other stuff.

https://youtube.com/shorts/6p0Q5KdPT5A?si=4iU3xxw1eJ1dpe6C

This is what the Voice Assistant setting looks like.

I’ll show you ANY setting you want to see. I just don’t know what else to show you. I’m sure I’m missing SOMETHING but I’m at a loss as to what it could be.

When using device_trackers, they set from home to not_home on HA restart (persistence?)

$

Hi There, Im trying to get out device tracking better see here for multiple devices (e.g. we both have an phone and a watch and frequently leave the house with both or one or the other)

My problem is, is that device_tracker.person is set to not_home when restarting HA. I have an automation that checks on HA startup and sets them to home. But the issue is is that then the unlock front door automation triggers.

Is there any way to set a device_tracker as persistent? or am I just going about this the wrong way.

This seems overly hard to get sorted.

Thanks!

SMA Home Manager - How to display current consumption

$

Hello,

I have integrated SMA Solar with Home Manager into my HA. All is working fine - except the one thing I cant get it to display is my home’s current consumption.

In the Sunny Portal - it shows a total consumption value… e.g. 2.65kW that I cannot find an entity showing in HA integration.

Has anyone solved this? Is it a derived sensor with a formular?

Rest url template is malformed, works if statically assigned

$

I am trying to create a rest API to call weather based on my location. but the issue with this rest sensor is that I get the error that lat/long is malformed.
If I set q=30,-100 for example, in the url, it works and returns valid data
If I set

params:
  q: 30,-100

it returns malformed lat/long

And ultimately I want to use the template to get q dynamically, but it returns invalid lat/long from the api both inline and as a param

is there a workaround for this annoying template bug?

Hey Google - Lower The Lights

$

Greetings,

I have a GE light dimmer (model 45614) that I used to control from a Vera Edge. I could ask my Google assistant/speaker to “lower the lights” and it would reduce the light level by something like 15% each time I asked. I am migrating away from the few things that are still on that Vera Edge and I added a Z-Wave USB stick to my HA computer. Works great! However, when I ask Google to “lower the lights” nothing happens. In the Google Home app, on my android phone, I can see the slider bar (for the dimmer) reduce the lights by 30% but the light level never changes and I see nothing in the HA logs.

I CAN put my finger on that google home-app dimmer slider and silde it up and down and cause the light level to change though. I’m missing something but after 2 days of google searches, I haven’t figured it out yet. Yes, I could say “hey google set the lights to 20%” and it will work, so the hooks are there to do this but I’m just coming up a bit short of figuring out what I’m missing when I just say “lower the lights”.

Can some recommend a cheap and easy to integrate outside camera which will work flawlessly? Best would be without any encryption.

I got a Tapo but it does not work.

How to update the fimware of Sonoff SNZB-02D?

$

I have Sonoff SNZB-02D with firmware 1.0.9, but I want to install the new version of 2.0.

I’ve tried this in configuration.yaml:

zha:
  zigpy_config:
    ota:
      extra_providers: [{'type': 'sonoff'}]

But it does nothing.

I’ve also tried to execute this action:

data:
  ieee: 0c:ef:f6:ff:fe:68:68:34
  endpoint_id: 1
  cluster_type: out
  command_type: client
  cluster_id: 25
  command: 0
  args:
    - 0
    - 100
action: zha.issue_zigbee_cluster_command

The action itself was successful, but the software did not update.

Is there a working way to update firmware?

Would it work if I buy a Sonoff Bridge Pro ZB (eWeLink), pair SNZB-02D with it, update via smartphone, reset, and connect it back to HA?

Weather Forecast today / Problems with configure.yaml

$

Hi at all,

I would like to read out the weather forecast for the current day with daily maximum temperature, condition, and date into a sensor.
I use the Met.No integration for this
Unfortunately, this does not work. The sensor always displays “unknown” under Attributes.

configure.yaml:

template:
  - trigger:
      - platform: time_pattern
        hours: /1
  - action:
      - service: weather.get_forecasts
        target:
          entity_id:
            - weather.forecast_home
        data:
            type: daily
        response_variable: tagesvorhersage
  - sensor:
    # Hier ein Template-Sensor, der verschieden Daten der Täglichen Vorhersage als Attribute gespeichert hat
      - name: Wetter-Vorhersage des heutigen Tages
        unique_id: forecast_today
        state: "{{ now().isoformat() }}"
        icon: mdi:hours-24

Automation - notify if away while external door(s) opened

I have an automation that warns if any of our external doors are opened while the whole family is away. This is my current automation:

        action: notify.whatsapp
  mode: single

This works great, except that some times my home/away sensor(s) only change to ‘home’ a few seconds after our front door has been opened, leading to false notifications. So I tried to rewrite the automation with a 2 minute delay between the door being opened and the actual notification. This is my attempt:

- id: '1672842695017'
  alias: Warning - External door opened when Family is away
  description: ''

        - group.external_doors

  conditions:
  - condition: and
    conditions:
    - condition: state
      entity_id: group.family
      state: not_home
    - condition: not
      conditions:
      - condition: state
        entity_id: input_select.houskeeping_status
        state: Active
  action:
    - service: variable.set_variable #line 3211
      data:
        variable: opened_doors_list
        value: >
          {% set doors = expand('group.external_doors') | selectattr('state', 'eq', 'on') %}
          {% set door_names = [] %}
          {% for door in doors %}
            {% set door_name = state_attr(door.entity_id, 'friendly_name') or door.entity_id | replace('binary_sensor.', '') | replace('_', ' ') | title %}
            {% set _ = door_names.append(door_name) %}
          {% endfor %}
          {{ door_names | to_json }}

    - delay:
        minutes: 2

    - choose: # line 3226
      - conditions:
        - condition: and
          conditions:
          - condition: state
            entity_id: group.family

What is not working here is the " - service: variable.set_variable" part, and I cannot figure out what I’m doing wrong here. I’m attaching the error messages I see in the Lovelace UI, and I’ve made comments in the above automation st show the line number that is referenced in the attached screenshot.

Maybe someone more skilled in yaml/jinja2 than myself can see what I’m doing wrong here?

        json_attributes_path: '$.actual.stationmeasurements.49'
        json_attributes:
          - timestamp
          - weatherdescription
          - etc

however, the station number changes almost daily, so my sensors go un available, or show data for another station altogether…
fwiw, this is the full json for the station:

{"$id":"53","stationid":6340,
 "stationname":"Meetstation Woensdrecht",
 "lat":51.45,"lon":4.33,
 "regio":"Woensdrecht","timestamp":"2025-02-18T07:30:00",
 "weatherdescription":"Zwaar bewolkt",
 "iconurl":"https://www.buienradar.nl/resources/images/icons/weather/30x30/cc.png",
 "fullIconUrl":"https://www.buienradar.nl/resources/images/icons/weather/96x96/CC.png",
 "graphUrl":"https://www.buienradar.nl/nederland/weerbericht/weergrafieken/cc",
 "winddirection":"O","airpressure":1024.7,"temperature":-5.0,
 "groundtemperature":-6.7,"feeltemperature":-9.5,
 "visibility":12300.0,"windgusts":3.8,
 "windspeed":3.0,"windspeedBft":2,
 "humidity":86.0,"precipitation":0.0,
 "rainFallLast24Hour":0.0,"rainFallLastHour":0.0,
 "winddirectiondegrees":80}

that was yesterday, check today, it’s back to 38 …

Cant I somehow search for the correct stationid/stationname in that json attributes path and be immune to that frequent change, and find the correct endpoint automatically?

Hue Emulate - Alexa says "device unresponsive"

Hi all,

Pretty much as the title says. Ive got Alexa to see my two switches and they can turn “on” but then become unresponsive afterwards.

http://192.168.XXX.XXX/api/v2/lights

Shows the devices in the JSON. I’ve enabled UPnP on my router, but still none the wiser on how to stop the devices from becoming unresponsive; anyone got any ideas on this? I’ve trawled the forums and reddit but most stuff seems to be back in 2019, so assuming an update has happened since then?

KNX Update the Prject file not Possile

Hi, trying to load a new Knx Project to the HA due to some changes in the KNX Project i always get an error: Upload fialed; “NetworkError when attempting to fetch resource.”

The old version works, just i have to upload the new file because i have some new Groupe Adresses which should be implemented.
Do i have to Delete the Projectdata first?
Would that mean i have to redo alle the KNX Kofiguration new?

Thank You very much

How to deal with GPS outliers?

Hello!

How shall I deal with GPS outliers with regard to tracking? Some positions are obviously not correct, even if the device (watch, phone) is at home and connected to WiFi. Some are 1-2 km away on the map and therefore are problematic with automations.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Variables in automation?

$

I want to display 3 columns of data on display (eink via OpenEPaperLink integration). Data is time/route/direction of buses from 3 stops close to my place (data comes from GTFS2 integration).

Ugly way creates variable three times (dropped all not needed fields and sensor names):

actions:
  - action: open_epaper_link.drawcustom
    metadata: {}
    data:
      payload:
        - type: multiline
          value: >-
            {% set stop1 =
            state_attr('sensor.stop1',
            'next_departures_lines') %}

            {% set stop2 =
            state_attr('sensor.stop2',
            'next_departures_lines') %}

            {% set stop3 =
            state_attr('sensor.stop3',
            'next_departures_lines') %}

            {% for dep in (stop1 + stop2 + stop3)|sort(attribute="departure")
            -%}

            {{ "%s" % (dep.departure) }}|

            {% endfor -%}
          x: 0
        - type: multiline
          value: >-
            {% set stop1 =
            state_attr('sensor.stop1',
            'next_departures_lines') %}

            {% set stop2 =
            state_attr('sensor.stop2',
            'next_departures_lines') %}

            {% set stop3 =
            state_attr('sensor.stop3',
            'next_departures_lines') %}

            {% for dep in (stop1 + stop2 + stop3)|sort(attribute="departure")
            -%}

            {{ "%02s" % ( dep.route) }}|

            {% endfor -%}
          x: 100
        - type: multiline
          value: >-
            {% set stop1 =
            state_attr('sensor.stop1',
            'next_departures_lines') %}

            {% set stop2 =
            state_attr('sensor.stop2',
            'next_departures_lines') %}

            {% set stop3 =
            state_attr('sensor.stop3',
            'next_departures_lines') %}

            {% for dep in (stop1 + stop2 + stop3)|sort(attribute="departure")
            -%}

            {{ "%s" % (dep.headsign) }}|

            {% endfor -%}
          x: 160

So I decided to try to create a list of departures once:

actions:
  - action: open_epaper_link.drawcustom
    metadata: {}
    data:
      payload:
        - type: multiline
          value: |-
            {% for dep in odjazdy -%}
            {{ dep }}|
            {% endfor -%}
          x: 0
        - type: multiline
          value: |-
            {% for dep in odjazdy %}
            {{ "%02s" % ( dep.route) }}|
            {% endfor -%}
          x: 100
        - type: multiline
          value: |-
            {% for dep in odjazdy %}
            {{ dep.headsign }}|
            {% endfor -%}
          x: 160
variables:
  odjazdy: |-
    {% set stop1 =
      state_attr('sensor.stop1',
      'next_departures_lines') %}
    {% set stop2 =
      state_attr('sensor.stop2',
      'next_departures_lines') %}
    {% set stop3 =
      state_attr('sensor.stop3',
      'next_departures_lines') %}
    {{ (stop1 + stop2 + stop3)|sort(attribute="departure") }}

“actions” part is now shorter, easier to read. “odjazdy” variable contains a list of departures:

[{'departure': '09:12', 'departure_datetime': datetime.datetime(2025, 2, 20, 8, 12, tzinfo=datetime.timezone.utc), 'departure_realtime': '-', 'departure_realtime_datetime': '-', 'delay_realtime_derived': '-', 'delay_realtime': '-', 'date': '2025-02-20', 'stop_name': 'Stop 12', 'route': '4', 'route_long': 'Here - There', 'headsign': 'There', 'trip_id': '436291_POW', 'direction_id': 0, 'icon': 'mdi:bus'},
 {'departure': '09:12', 'departure_datetime': datetime.datetime(2025, 2, 20, 8, 12, tzinfo=datetime.timezone.utc), 'departure_realtime': '-', 'departure_realtime_datetime': '-', 'delay_realtime_derived': '-', 'delay_realtime': '-', 'date': '2025-02-20', 'stop_name': 'Stop 12', 'route': 'B', 'route_long': 'Somewhere - Otherwhere', 'headsign': 'Otherwhere', 'trip_id': '434102_POWS', 'direction_id': 0, 'icon': 'mdi:bus'},
 {'departure': '09:15', 'departure_datetime': datetime.datetime(2025, 2, 20, 8, 15, tzinfo=datetime.timezone.utc), 'departure_realtime': '-', 'departure_realtime_datetime': '-', 'delay_realtime_derived': '-', 'delay_realtime': '-', 'date': '2025-02-20', 'stop_name': 'Stop 13', 'route': '3', 'route_long': 'There - Nowhere', 'headsign': 'Nowhere', 'trip_id': '375423_POW', 'direction_id': 1, 'icon': 'mdi:bus'}]

But in “actions” block it is treated as a string:

          [|
          {|
          '|
          d|
          e|
          p|
          a|
          r|
          t|
          u|
          r|
          e|
          '|
          :|

What is wrong? Where the mistake was made?

Setting up new Homematic IP Cloud Integration not working?

$

Hello all,
I’m very new to Home Assistant as I received my Home Assistant Green only this week. Unfortunately, since then I am unsuccessfully trying to integrate my Homematic IP Cloud into the system. I do not receive any error message after entering my Access Point ID (SGTIN) + PIN (which I verified must be Ok because I changed it in the Homematic IP App). I click “Ok” and the blue button on the Access Point multiple times, I tried it several times this week on multiple Browsers (Chrome, IE, Firefox) and on multiple computers and in the iOS App - I never receive any error message but it simply does not progress when clicking “Ok”.
Am I missing something? What can I do?
Regards,
Reinold
PS: I also opened an issue on GitHub (Link: Homematic IP Cloud integration not working · Issue #138847 · home-assistant/core · GitHub) but maybe somebody can help me here.

Automation based on KNX event

I have desperately tried for days to create an automation based on KNX events. I am trying to turn on a lamp based on this event:

variables:
  trigger:
    id: "0"
    idx: "0"
    alias: null
    destination: 0/7/1
    destination_name: ""
    direction: Outgoing
    dpt_main: null
    dpt_sub: null
    dpt_name: null
    payload: true
    source: 0.0.0
    source_name: Home Assistant
    telegramtype: GroupValueWrite
    timestamp: "2025-02-20T10:07:29.836215+01:00"
    unit: null
    value: null
context: null

… and turn off the same lamp for this event:

variables:
  trigger:
    id: "0"
    idx: "0"
    alias: null
    destination: 0/7/1
    destination_name: ""
    direction: Outgoing
    dpt_main: null
    dpt_sub: null
    dpt_name: null
    payload: false
    source: 0.0.0
    source_name: Home Assistant
    telegramtype: GroupValueWrite
    timestamp: "2025-02-20T10:07:29.836215+01:00"
    unit: null
    value: null

Tuya T & H Sensor (unsupported)

I have many temperature and humidity sensors, as well as motion ones, all connected with Tuya and all visible on HA with the official integration.
I purchased other sensors, identical to the previous ones, but these in HA have the writing “T & H Sensor (unsupported)”. Does it happen to others? How did you solve it?
