Total Connect Comfort "hold" modes

$

I’ve just starting to use the Total Connect Comfort integration, and having a strange issue with the “hold” modes. My theromostat is a Honeywell RTH9580WF1005, and works fine using the TCC app.

This termostat has three modes: normal (follow schedule), temporary hold (until next scheduled change), and permanent hold. HA shows I have three preset_modes: “none”, “away”, and “hold”.

Setting “none” causes the thermostat to follow the schedule, as I anticipated.

Setting “away” and “hold” are both behaving unexpectedly. If I move from “none” to “away”, every other time it sets the thermostat to “temporary” or “permanent” hold. For example:

  1. “none” → “away” yields temporary hold
  2. “away” → “none” yields following schedule
  3. “none” → “away” yields permanent mode
  4. “away” → “none” yields following schedule
  5. “none” → “away” yields temporary hold

The same thing happens with “hold” as “away”. I had expected one of these two modes to be the temporary hold and the other the permanent hold. The documentation says “away” is the permanent hold, and doesn’t mention the “hold” mode.

I’ve printed the HA device state, and the “permanent hold” attribute is reflecting the same as what I’m seeing. ie: half the time set to true and the other half false.

It takes a while for the settings to take effect, so I’m waiting for both the thermostat and my HA dashboard to show each new state before trying the next step. ie: Assuming looking at the thermostat control and the HA console is a good representation of steady state, I’m not causing a race condition.

For completeness, here is my code snippet (device_id truncated):

     sequence:
         - device_id: f4...
            domain: climate
            entity_id: climate.house
            type: set_preset_mode
            preset_mode: away
          - action: climate.set_temperature
            metadata: {}
            data:
              target_temp_high: 84
              target_temp_low: 55
            target:
              device_id: f4...

Am I doing something wrong? Are successfully setting each of the 3 modes?

How to start conversation on VoIP phone?

My VoIP Phone with the Grandstream is working.

But how do I create a conversation?
Action “Assist satellite: Start conversation” is telling me:
Failed to perform the action assist_satellite.start_conversation. Built-in conversation agent does not support starting conversations

So I must be missing a step.

And if it does matter: I’m connected to the HA cloud.

Hi,

I am using the vanilla docker-compose setup. I see that Frigate is using it is own docker setup as well. Does anyone have a single docker-compose file that successfully integrates Frigate with HA docker compose?

I have working HA setup with Zooz Z-wave usb stick. It works great. I have one area of the house that I am having difficulties with Z-wave reach. Second z-wave controller would solve the issue.

I have ethernet cable available in that area. What are my options with HA to add second Z-wave controller? I am assuming there is solution for that. I just can’t find much information or I looking in wrong places.

Hi - I’ve move to a ZBT-1 a few months ago, but never realised that my old Conbee is still listed under my Zigbee “Integration” (screenshot attached). Can I delete this? Will it drop all my Zigbee devices? All seems to work fine, but trying to clean things up.

Thanks

Tile / Bar Combo Card

Context: HA Newbie here.

I can’t seem to find another example of a card like this (the % should be like 80% - just a mock up):

The bar card seem to the way to go or can I make a tile card (the one I used to mock this up) and add a second row?

Is this a vertical stack with a bunch of CSS to wrap the stick to look like the tile?

Missing tabs in web ui

I’ve run across a rather annoying issue. I’m running the latest version of the HomeAssistant OS on a virtual machine and have been using the web ui for the interface. It use to have settings, configuration, developer tools, script editor and now it only has overview, energy, map, logbook, history, media, notifications and mqtt login. I did a snapshot of the virtual disk to migrate it to another computer when it was working fine with all the tabs but when I logged in on the new machine the above tabs were missing; did this with three different machines. My original install of HA was working with all the tabs until a few days ago when it asked me to login in the web ui and then the tabs were gone (settings, developer tools, configuration, etc). The tabs aren’t hidden, I checked. Someone mentioned pressing “c” when on the page and that did nothing. Any help would be appreciated, just point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Threshold sensors keep switching to "unknown" intermittently

$

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with my threshold sensors in Home Assistant and hope someone can help me out. The problem occurs with all four of my threshold sensors.

The Problem:
My threshold sensors don’t maintain their “On/Off” status correctly and intermittently switch to “unknown”. Here’s an example from the history of one sensor:

That’s the configuration of the sensor:

What I’ve Checked So Far:

I verified the status of the source sensor, which reliably reports its value every 10 seconds - see screenshot:

Question:
Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this? Why do the sensors keep switching to “unknown”? I’m not sure where to start troubleshooting this issue. Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Has anyone created a dashboard for wallmount with large text and icons?

$

Has anyone created a dashboard for a wallmount tablet with large text and icons so it can be legible from several feet away? I’m trying to get ideas of what works best and which entities to include. I know I want day, date, and time in one card, hvac in another, daily weather in another, hourly weather in another then a few switch controls for fan, radiator, some lights.

I am having the hardest time visualizing how I want to the sensors and switches to appear with large text and icons. They need to be in buttons or the buttons also need to be big if next to icons and text.

I am thinking of using a vertical stacks in a horizontal stack of 2 columns in a panel dashboard. Not sure if that is too complicated.

Not sure if card-mod for getting large text and icons is the best idea for the cards regardless of card used.

Any recommendations?

[Backups] Local only toggle on updates

$

I had an issue updating my Core instance the other night, where it seemed to be taking forever - realising that it was trying to upload (slowly) my backup to my preferred cloud storage.

In the case of an update, I’m ok with having a local only backup (it goes to my local NAS) - would it be possible to have some kind of toggle that allows a local-only backup as part of the update process?

Aqara Dimmer Switch H2 EU

Last week I bought the Aqara Dimmer Switch H2 EU. The device works fine to control non smart lights as it just works as a normal dimmer. It’s visible in HA as a light so you can easily control it that way. But what i would like to do is to use the dial on the switch to dim zigbee lights. I think that should be possible with an automation but I can’t seem to find how to achieve this. When you rotate the dial it changes the brightness of light entity in HA. So i would like link the brightness of the switch to other lights.

Dear forum,
I am using a web thermometer (WuT data sheet: Web-Thermograph).
Unfortunately, I cannot find an integration, neither in Home Assistant itself, nor in HACS for IP-Web-devices.
Does anybody know, how/if this device can be integrated somehow?

Thanks

How to find the correct firmware for my Aeotec Z-Wave Gen7 stick

I have an Aeotec Z-Stick Gen 7 (ZWA010-C) with firmware v7.19.2. The usb device id is dev/serial/by-id/usb-Silicon_Labs_CP2102N_USB_to_UART_Bridge_Controller_d44cc85e3985ed11a67fc89f9d1cc348-if00-port0
I’d like to update to v7.21.5 and found zwave_ncp_serial_api_controller_BRD4206A-7-21-5.gbl.
Is this a firmware file for my adapter or how can I find out what is a correct firmware file or where can I find it?

NabuCasa vs Tailscale

$

Hi guys,

Just an observation I like to share.

I have my HA setup remotely connected via NabuCasa but also via Tailscale. I have setup Tailscale to have a second instance via RemoteHA connected to the main instance.

My observation is that the loading at start up via Tailscale is considerably faster than via NabuCasa. It sometimes look like NabuCasa is congested or so and then I use Tailscale and it’s up in a blink of an eye.

What could be the reason?

My instance is running on a RP4 with HaOS supervised. I don’t mind paying for NabuCasa to support the great work they do there (but Tailscale is free and faster🫣)

Transport for NSW parking sensor

$

Hi all,

This may be of interest to any one who uses one of the NSW transport parking stations. I built a sensor using the parking API to get the information on how many spots are available. It uses the same API key required to get the official transport NSW integration working.

  - platform: rest
    resource: "https://api.transport.nsw.gov.au/v1/carpark?facility=(car park ID)"
    method: GET
    name: "Name of parking"
    scan_interval: 60
    headers:
      accept: "application/json"
Authorization: "apikey (your key here remove bracket)"
    value_template: "{{ (number of spots) - (int(value_json.occupancy.total)) }}"
    unit_of_measurement: car spaces

(Car Park ID) replace with number from link below and remove brackets
(Number of Spots) replace with number of spots from link below and remove brackets

Maybe someone can make this better but I found it useful so thought i’d share it.

Automation - Trigger when self is turned on - possible?

$

Is it possible for an automation to contain a trigger that fires when the automation itself is turned on and each time it is turned on [after off] during a single HA persistence session (i.e. not each time HA starts but each time the automation is started).
How would i define such a trigger in yaml?

Reason:
I have an automation “A” that can be turned on by a number of other automations, “B”, “C”, “D”, and so on. I’d like to set up a trigger in “A” such that it fires whenever turned on by “B”, “C”, “D” or any other mechanism.

Integration Waze on an iPad, issue with reCAPTCHA

My integration of Waze works perfectly.

However, recently (after one of the upgrades of HA) it doesn’t work on an iPad anymore.

At the bottom left you see the message about a supported browser to get a reCAPTCHA challenge. Does anybody know what to do to solve this issue?

I have seen issues with live camera stream as well on an iPad. On a Mac with Safari everything runs fine, switching to iPad there is an issue… What kind of browser does HA use within the HA app on an iPad?

BMW Connected Drive - Reconnect prompt after a few seconds

I posted this problem in an older thread here in the forum and on Github in core, but no one reacts on this till now. Therefore I open this new thread.

@gerard33 @rikroe

  1. The integration forces me to re-autheticate my account.
  2. I enter my pw and capcha
  3. It says “Succesfully connected”.
  4. After a few seconds the integration came up with 1.

Between 3. und 4. I saw this for a second:

This is prompted in my log:

Unable to connect to Home Assistant intermittently

$

I have this issue intermittently. Sometimes a few minutes, sometimes hours. None of the logs give a hint to what it is. No CPU/RAM spike, no network outages. SSH works. Ping to HA works. Disabled most of plugins.
Today it’s not reachable for more than 6 hours. However sensors send their data to the backend. Only UI does not seem to work properly.
Please give me some hint what I can try, I’m desperate. Did a ha core restart from SSH with negative result.
