iOS Geocoding works - now what? (Time to home?)

Hi Folks,

I’ve starting using the ios integration, and it seems to be working fine. Thanks!

I’ve noticed that the sensor.geocoded_location_X shows an address, lat/long, country, post code, ocean, county (“sub administrative area”), etc. It does actually show me the address, which would be easy to put into a google query for “how long to get here”.

Does integration get these data from HA, by looking up the provided lat/long, does it get it because the iOS Companion makes an Apple API or Google API call, locally on the phone?

I can envision an additional feature where the “Distance to home”, “time to home”, “path to home”, “current speed”, “average speed”, etc. is calculated by HA and the map is shown to the HA user.

This would be a useful feature for geofencing, for times when it takes a period of time to complete a task. For instance, if my outdoor spa has an HA-enabled heater, I could make HA know that if I want the spa to be ready when I leave for home on a 45-minute route, that HA needs to start the heat when I’m 30 minutes away, etc…and to cancel the heat if it looks like I’m I go further away or look as though I’m not going to arrive.

Are there any plans or thoughts on the “time to home” feature?

Oh, and while I’m at it, I have seen every X days, the Companion app says “here’s where you’ve been, do you still want HA to record your travels (or whatever it says)”. Is there a way to see that map? How are the “breadcrumbs” stored and how can they be retrieved?

Thanks for a great tool!

Cheers,

Ambi
