Good morning,

Still very new to HA. I’ve got my HA Pi server setup, and installed HA Voice PE, which is working great! Now…how can I get it to tell me today’s weather, as well as a weather forecast?

Tapo camera recording

Hi,

I’ve got a c225 Tapo camera that saves videos locally on an SD card when motion is detected because I don’t want my videos to be on the internet. By the way I have blocked internet access on my firewall.

In Home Assistant, I have installed the Tapo integration and created an automation that once my entrance door is opened, it waits for 5 secons, then records a video via the generic camera integration.
But video quality is very bad and it lags a lot.

I wonder if it would be possible to get the last video that has been recorded on the SD card since the time the door has been opened.

Any idea ?

I don’t want to synchronize continuously the SD card with my Home Assistant.

Thank you

Good day

Stoopid newbie question: dashboard thing not updating

$

I am new to Home Assistant, playing with my first dashboard, and I have what is probably a stoopid newbie problem: some of the things on my dashboard are not updating. Specifically, my Netatmo devices (highlighted in red below):

…show the values they had five hours ago, whereas when I click on one of them, the underlying system clearly knows that the values have been changing all this time (see inset in above picture).

Other things are updating (e.g. the Nest one). What might I have misunderstood about how this works?

This is what the code for the Netatmo thing pictured above contains (I merely allowed the “add to dashboard” button to do its job, nothing fancy):

type: entities
entities:
  - entity: sensor.temperature_humidity_noise_and_co2_temperature
    name: Temperature
    secondary_info: last-updated
  - entity: sensor.temperature_humidity_noise_and_co2_humidity
    name: Humidity
  - entity: sensor.temperature_humidity_noise_and_co2_carbon_dioxide
    name: Carbon dioxide
  - entity: sensor.temperature_humidity_noise_and_co2_noise
    name: Noise
title: Kitchen, 18
show_header_toggle: true

[I use the word “thing” about as I’m not yet exactly sure that these dashboard blobs are meant to be referred to as]

Why statistics so flaky?

$

0

I am trying to add a statistics helper to keep track of the lowest value of a sensor in the last day.
I have added the following sensor but it is too flaky, meaning it just jumps back up to the highest value.
The sensor this analytics helper is tracking is generally having 2 value changes each day.

sensors.yml:

- platform: statistics
name: "Min electricity tarif last 24 hours"
  entity_id: sensor.smart_meter_electricity_import_unit_rate
  unique_id: 10003
  state_characteristic: value_min
  precision: 4
  max_age:
    hours: 24

The sensor. looks like this over each day

And at random times, the sensor the yml above creates will jump from the min (0.09) to the max value (0.34) and there is no indication as to WHY.

Here is how this created sensor looks like

Even if I manually set it back to 0.09 it jumps back up to 0.34 after a few seconds

Combined gauge

Hi, I am wondering that there is a way to combine a few gauges into one. I need to perform two things:

  1. Combine a few gauges into one bar but with distinguish what part of the bar particular parts are - something like a combined bar chart in excel

  2. another one is to display 2 gauges as a bar (I know there is a dual gauge card, but it display values and it is an arc - not very clear in my situation.
    Something like this:

Any ideas?

HA Voice PE Hardware / Electronics Question (Max Power Draw)

$

I’m working on a small project (and if successful, I will write up instructions and post 3D printed part STLs because I’m designing a modified case/enclosure as well!) - I’ve connected a small audio amp board (an LQ-AMP10W) and 2x5W 4Ω speakers to the following pins on VPE:

(Side note: It’s a shame that there isn’t one header with both 5V and GND! Or did I miss it?)

I’m monitoring the total power draw of VPE with the amp connected with an AVHzY.

When not playing music: ~4.8V @ ~0.1A
When playing music: ~4.2–4.6V @ ~0.2–0.4A
Absolute maximum amp draw observed (100% volume on VPE and amp, with a loud song): ~0.6A

My question is: Is this harmful long-term to the VPE mainboard? What is the minimum and maximum voltage input for the board (or, how much voltage drop can it handle before bad stuff starts to happen?), and how much current (in amps) can the 5V pin provide? (Let’s assume that we’ve connected the USB-C port to a robust, clean power supply that can reliably deliver up to 5V @ 2.4A.)

(Note: You may ask “Why didn’t you use the Grove port?” - In the schematics for VPE, the Grove port can only deliver a maximum of 200mA, not nearly enough to drive 5W speakers.)

Fritz!Box Tools: How does it align "device at home" with a device in HA?

$

Hi all,

I have a Fritzbox up and running, and added a few repeaters around the house, also by AVM, all connected as mesh.

It works fine, I’m quite happy. I also cleaned up some entries today in the Fritzbox, so the names are now showing correctly in the network view.

Next thing I want to straighten is the devices in Home Assistant and AVM Fritz Tools. You see, somehow AVM FRITZ!Box Tools is able to add an Entity to other devices under “diagnosis”, showing if the device is connected to the wifi/network/“at home”.

It will look like this:

I haven’t done anything, but this magically appeared once I had set up the AVM Tools integration. Due to its “magicability”, I do not understand why it is showing on some devices, but not on others.

Inside the devices of the integration, there is a weird mix of devices and integrations that work together with the AVM tools:

About 75 devices did not receive a name in AVM tools, but are showing as “PC-” or “PC-”.

In the end, I’m hoping to achive that next to my mobile phone:

I could see the device tracker from here:

I could swear that I had had this in the past, but I don’t really remember and have no clue what might have changed, and, again, due to the “magicability” of the whole integration, I don’t know where to start or what to look for.

Anybody having an idea? Could it be that the AVM tools are matching MAC addresses of devices? Because eg. I don’t see a MAC address in my Overkiz Tahoma box and there is no AVM tools diagnosis, but I see the MAC address eg. in my smart smoke alerts:

Alexa/HA Cloud

So for about a over a year now I’ve experienced Alexa to stop responding to voice requests. The response from Alexa is the Hub is not responding. Logging out and right back into HA Cloud immediately restores it. I have reinstalled the Alexa skill etc no change. I can’t see anything in logs that reference a related error. I don’t know or am familiar with how Ha Cloud authenticates with the Alexa Skill etc. The only thing I know that works every time is logging out and into HA Cloud restores it. Just recently this has happened over 6 times in a day, otherwise it’s at least once to twice a day this happens. Driving myself and wife nuts!

Mystery Hue Light Paired To My Controller By Itself

$

One day in early February a new light appeared. It’s serial number is a Hue light, but all are my Hue’s are accounted for. This light does not appear in the Hue Lighting application, and is paired directly to my HUSBZB-1 controller.

I disabled this entity, but how do I delete it and where might it have come from?

This is concerning that an unknown entity can pair itself to my house. It has no “related devices” except for the controller it’s paired to. Where can I start to get to the bottom of this. I want to delete the entity entirely, but I can’t seem to find a way to do that.

Unifi Protect custom webhook vs Home Assistant trigger

$

Hi everyone,

Have no idea where else to ask, to trying also here.

I am currently struggling with webhook automation trigger.

Behavior is very strange.

Use case is, custom alarm within Unifi camera to trigger automation for outdoor lights.

  1. If I sent the POST via Postman, the automation is triggered.
  2. If the same POST is sent via unifi, nothing - the trace in automation is empty - not called. I have no idea where the data could be lost.
  3. The Unifi camera motion detection works fine, but detects also motion from sidewalk.

Does anyone have experience with those?

(Set to POST, only local false)I cannot use Unifi entity within this camera, as there is no support for zones (need to ignore cars and persons on the sidewalk). HA Greed, whole infrastructure is Unifi.

Thanks for any idea, Tom

Custom Intent - Fan Speed

$

Hey folks,

As the username implies, I’m not a programmer. I have been trying and researching for a few days now to create a custom intent to turn on Z-wave fans with a high, medium, and low setting using the voice satellite area. I think I’m close (maybe not), but I just can’t figure out how to get the pieces flowing together. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is what I have so far, in a file named "fan_speed_setting.yaml in /custom_sentences/en:

language: "en"
intents:
  HassFanSpeed:
    data:
      - sentences:
         - "(turn | set) [on] [the] {area} (fan | fans) (on | to) {speed}"
        slots:
          domain: "fan"

lists:
  speed:
    values:
      - in: "high"
        out: "100%"
      - in: "medium"
        out: "66%"
      - in: "low"
        out: "33%"

In config.yaml I have the following intent script:

intent_script:
  HassFanSpeed:
    action:
      - service: "fan.turn_on"
        target:
          area_id: "{{area}}"
        data:
          percentage: "{{speed}}"
    speech:
text: "Fan has been set to {{speed}} in the {{area}}."

HomeKit bluetooth devices showing unavailable

$

Hey folks

I run HAOS on a little Mini PC which has built-in bluetooth, and I have two Everything Presence (ESPHome) sensors, which are configured to be bluetooth proxies.

I also have 5 Eve Smoke homekit smoke sensors, which only use Bluetooth. Some time ago I unpaired them from HomeKit and they were neatly discovered by Home Assistant, which I paired them to.

I’ll be honest and say that I don’t exactly check their status very often, because my house is usually not on fire, but I do press the test button on the units themselves and they are working.

I noticed recently that all 5 of them are showing as Unavailable in Home Assistant, which struck me as odd. I’ve so far been unable to figure out where the problem is - I’ve rebooted the Mini PC, 2025.02 has had a few point updates, so HA has been restarted multiple times, I’ve tried restarting the devices individually in HA, and nothing seems to bring them back.

If I go into the new bluetooth advertisment monitor, I can see that they are present, but somehow they’re just not being detected.

There don’t appear to be any error logs anywhere, so I’m turning to your good selves to see if I can get some help to figure out what the heck is going on here!

Thanks very much for your time

the sensor of my photovoltaic system only shows ‘unknown’ in the evening.
normally it doesn’t matter, but on a display with a ticker it looks stupid: ‘unknown KW’.
Can I change this so that a 0 is displayed instead of ‘unknow’?
